My BF has been acting distant the last few days I asked him if something was wrong and he said as he told me all along he doesnt think he is ready for a relationship yet and this is all he has for now and he knows he is hurting me. He has been honest with me from the beginning he got out of a 2yr relationship not too long ago and she hurt him pretty bad and now he is scared to go down that road again. We have been together about 3 months now, I love him and he tells me he loves me but its just hard for him. Should I be selfless and let him go as much is hurts? I guess if its meant to be it will be or should i stay in the background hoping one day he will want something serious with me? I know if I continue to speak to him I will never get over him.

Sounds like your his transition relationship . . . it's true that there is always a disposable relationship right after a LTR . . . he'll always associate you with the breakup . . . nothing you can do about that I'm afraid.

let him go.
he will grow to resent you/the relationship if he feels "tied down" and doesn't want to be.
he has been honest with you about how he feels so back off and see what happens.
