I am travelling to anaheim for the UFC fights but there are no direct flights to John Wayne, so I thought if LAX was close enogh to Anahiem I would just fly into there and take a car to Anaheim. Is this a good idea?

I believe you live in Calgary, Alberta. Nice place. Yes, flying to LAX is an alternative. Anaheim is about 37 miles / 59 Km distance. Your best bet for ground transportation is to rent a car, you'll probably need it to get around while you are here. Canadian carrier West Jet Airlines seems to have the lowest fares.

The UFC match is at Honda Center (formerly the Pond of Anaheim) located at 2695 E. Katella Avenue, Anaheim, Ca. 92806. Just across the freeway from Angel's Stadium. You can look up the driving directions on Mapquest. (Yahoo Maps gives you a stupid routing). It's not too difficult to find. In light traffic it is about an hour drive, during evening rush (4:00-7:00pm) it could be as much as 3 hours. Have a good flight, and enjoy the match.

I work at LAX. Anaheim is about 30 miles. You have several ways to get there. #1. Take a shuttle. Like Supershuttle or Primetime Shuttle. You can get one on the lower level outside under the Orange sign. Dispatchers are right there. #2. You can take the Disneyland Bus. Leaves every half hour under the Green sign. #3. Take a taxi. (most expensive) or #4. Rent a car. Rent one in advance (they have maps for directions) and go under the Purple sign for Car Rental Shuttles. Its about an hours drive, unless there is a accident on the road. Renting a car would be best if you need one once you get there, but you must return it where you rented it so you don;t have to pay an extra fee.

Since this is the 'off season' for Travel, it shouldn't be too bad. Try to keep your arrival time away from rush hours (7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m.) and you should be fine. Also, I might recommend getting a taxi and taking it to a rental car place outside the airport if you can afford it. It's way less time consuming and chaotic than picking up a rental car at LAX

Screw Mapquest...it tells you to take the 5 because it is a hair closer than taking the right route...105 to the 605 (where it ends)..south to the 91 east to the 5 south...off at Katella if you are going to the Honda Center ..formerly the Pond.
105 is clear most of the time...91 busy on Fridays.

It's about 45 minutes on the freeway without rush traffic but LAX is just such a painful airport to get in and out of.
Do check on Long Beach (LGB) and Ontario; they are both closer.

That's very do-able. Without traffic, it's 50 minute drive. With traffic, it could be 1 1/2 hours.

Ontario airport might be another option.

Have fun!
