I've been accepted to nursing school, the hospital I want to work for will repay my school loans, but I can't get a loan because it seems to be all based on my credit score, which isn't great. I'm not a risk at all, but how do I find someone to help me???? I need the loan so I can support myself and the kids as I go to school--my child support is pretty small. Help!

My school does not accept federal loans; my only option loan-wise is to get a personal loan and use it for school. That was my school's advice.

Your school does not accept federal student loans? Well, that's interesting... and disturbing....

Okay, my advise: RUN.... don't walk to another school. You are going to one of those expensive for-profit proprietary schools that isn't recognized by the US Department of Education. If you go to a school listed on the second link you will likely qualify for federal grants, possibly state grants, and federally backed loans. You don't need a cosigner or to pass a credit check to get a loan there. Your eligibility on these is based on income and single moms are usually low income. You might qualify for up to $4310.00 in a federal Pell grant - you don't have to pay back. Compare the cost of your school to another public school. You may be pleasantly surprised and realize you can go to school without having to take out any loans.
I've attached regarding the grants and the minimum and maximum amounts, as well as the second link to find a federally recognized school in your area.

Edit - If your school doesn't accept federal loans, and it truly is a 2 year state school there is still something wrong. Either you still arent going to a real school, you arent getting an RN, perhaps an LVN or LPN or a certificate program at a tech school and/ or their past student loan default rate was too high, so this privledge was yanked. (In other words, too many people who took out loans there couldn't payback thier loans after graduation). PLEASE BEWARE!!!

Nursing is one of the professions that there is a lot of help for nursing students due to the shortage. There are scholarship programs along with student loan forgiveness programs. Both come from the state and federal governments along with some pretty big name and well known companies. I personally recommend applying for as many as you can because it can limit how much you take in student loans. I recommend searching Google.com and Yahoo.com for any state programs offering help to nursing school students. I will include some free resources below to find money for nursing school. Good luck!

My mother was a single mother who got very little aid from my father, so I know how hard it is to survive when everything is so expensive!

Your best option would be to apply for grants and scholarships. These are free sources of money that can be used to pay for tuition, and you don't have to pay them back. You can read about them here:

Ask someone in the financial aid office at your school- they're very good at creative financing.
