I have a pug puppy and he can hold it for no longer than 8 hours usually.
You might try to find a local dog walker. They can come in the middle of the day, walk your dog and play with him for a little bit for a daily fee. Or there are also doggy daycare centers if you can afford it - but I think a dog walker would be less expensive.

I have the same problem but but my dogs seem to be fine. I usually leave at 8:30 and get home around between 5:30 and 6:30. I think a lot of people have the this problem because we love our pets but we still have to work. If you find that the dog can't "hold it" for so long you might have to hire someone you trust to come over in the middle of the day to take the dog out.

There will probably be a couple of accidents, but you can only do so much.
Keep an eye out for other pet owners. Offer to walk thier dog in the morning if they will take yours for a walk at lunchtime. Many people in apartment buildings work nights, so there should be someone willing to trade with you. Some buildings have a newsletter where tenants can place ads for free. Try using this as a medium to get the message out.

You know I've been around this block myself and listened to friends with the problem. After I got my dogs trained they seemed to care less as long as they were loose in the house. Their anxiety was decreased due to access to the couch, beds etc for major napping and also free access to toys and food. The crating thing seems difficult at best. Some dogs adjust, some don't. Now if I'm dumb enough to let them go 12 or more hours I should expect droppings. My dogs were nice enough most of the time to leave them by the door. I am a STRONG supporter of friends or even hired folk to come let the dog out and give playtime to our pets. Being alone a ton of the time is an invitation to neurosis. There's somebody in your life somewhere who will help you with this job that helps support one of the best friends you have. Don't let your buddy down...

I am actually in a similar situation with my Aussie Cattle Dog(very hyper) and I believe that all day is awfully long to keep a dog alone without going to the bathroom. Having your dog hold it like that all day every day could lead to bladder/kidney problems so please be careful and just try to make arrangements. I usually try to come home during lunch to do a potty walk, but if I'm unable I'll have a friend come over for that purpose. What breed do you have?

Smaller dogs tend to have smaller bladders, so if she's a small dog, that's really not good for her. Bigger dogs tend to be able to hold it longer.
But in general, it's not a good idea to leave a dog for that long without a potty break. Once in a while is okay, but every day is expecting a bit much from them.
Have you looked into doggy daycare? You could leave her there 2-3 times a week. She'd be able to play with other dogs and potty when she needs to.
Or, hire a pet sitter to come in once a day. They usually stay 15-30 minutes and will play with the dog and take it out to potty.
If you're really strapped for cash, try to find a responsible kid in the neighborhood that likes dogs and have them take her out to potty when they get home from school. You can probably get away with paying them $10-$20 a week vs $10-$20 a visit from the pet sitter.

I walk my dog in the morning around 7:00 and again around 5:30pm. She can hold it, she'll sometimes have an accident on the stairs outside because she couldn't hold it, but she doesn't go potty out on the balcony where we leave her because that is her "home" when I'm gone or sleeping. She'll be okay, and if it's a puppy she'll get accustomed to it so she will be able to hold it longer.

It's not the best for them, just like it wouldn't be good for you to hold your bladder that long. But it won't really hurt her. But I do the same thing with mine and she's fine. You should be okay. Just don't be too hard on her if she has an accident. If you have a small dog, you can always put her in the kitchen with some toys and a little bed do that if she does have an accident it's easier to clean up. :-) Hope this helps!!

That's a long time, but it's been done. Her being ok, depends on how reliable she was before you moved. I wouldn't trust her to be in a new home right away, as she probably doesn't recognize it as her "territory" yet.
You may even have to revert to using the crate for a while. Also, consider getting someone to let your dog out during the day. It's very hard on a dog to be left for so many hours. Imagine yourself holding your bladder for so long.

Millions of pets are left home alone during the day "holding it" for hrs at a time. Your dog holds it from the time it goes to bed at night til you wake up the following morning right?
