I will be doing my student teaching in Australia next fall, not sure where yet though. I only have to teach for about 10 weeks but I plan to be there for 15 so I can see everything. So what advice can you give a yank who is coming to Australia? I will be there from the end of August till the beginning of December if that makes a difference.

First, remember that you'll be there in the spring (the seasons are different, remember?) Thuis means rainy, warm and humid - and getting worse the further north you go.

It also depends on where you are going to be. Remember that Australia is about the same size as the USA (excluding Alaska), so there are vast distances between cities that are completely empty. For example, if you're going to be in Perth, then its a long way to go before you get anywhere worth seeing.

If you're going to be on the east coast, there should be plenty to do - anywhere from Adelaide and Melbourne, past Sydney, and Brisbane, all the way to Cairns. It all depends on what you're interested in.

Good luck!

Start in Sydney. It is Australia's oldest and biggest city and is breathtakingly beautiful. Do your student teaching there and you are well positioned to explore anywhere else in Australia. You won't see everything in five weeks. I've lived here 45 years and have seen a lot but nowhere near everything.

Read Bill Bryson's book "Down Under" for an American's view of Australia. It is a delightful read and will give you many great ideas. In Sydney look at the web site What's on in Sydney at http://www.whatsoninsydney.com.au for all the many things to see and do.

that's great. You will be there during Spring and beginning of the summer. Not sure where city you're going to but Sidney is a great cosmopolitan city and you should definitely visit the Opera House which was part of one of the wonders of the world (it didn't get selected though). The beaches of Gold Coast supposed are beautiful as well.... Australia is a huge country and besides the big cities there are not much to do anywhere else... Trying also going to the mountains and see the animals like kangurus, etc...

South Africans have the same custom to Australians and upload value generally to Australia. oftentimes people who come are arranged to artwork annoying and not commence up crime. They slot in nicely. Strategically there are no longer that many ecu South Africans left in South Africa so why no longer have something come acrossbuild our inhabitants up somewhat greater populate places the place we require greater human beings and talents...in addition they arrive from a climate such as ours. Having an improved inhabitants could additionally advance us. we are in a frustrating community so making Australia greater suitable could be good too.

I'd reccomend tropical north queensland for aug/sept, then check out sydney and melbourne and i guess no trip would be complete without checking out the red centre (outback). Just dont expect to see kangaroos everywhere, cos despite the rumours, its not true. Thats like expecting L.A to be full of grizzly's...

Don't miss out on Queensland! You can go from subtropical temperatures in the south of the state, to tropical temperatures in the north. It is home to the Great Barrier Reef, lush rainforests, desert, theme parks, beaches, watersports, gorgeous islands, incredible wildlife, and a whole lot more!
I would say that some of QLD's hotspots would be the GBR, Fraser Island, the Whitsundays, the beaches of the Sunshine Coast, Cairns, the northern rainforests such as daintree, waterfalls such as Millaa Millaa Falls, Australia Zoo, and Magnetic Island. These are only a select few places though!

A lot of people like the Gold Coast, but unless you are really into theme parks, there isn't much else to see there except for beaches. Spare yourselves the trouble and head straight to the Sunshine Coast where there are less tourists and beaches that aren't so crowded! You can also enjoy the Glasshouse Mountains and spots of gorgeous rainforest in the hinterland.

I say all this, but make sure you don't miss out on other areas such as Sydney, Melbourne and their surrounding regional areas while you are in Oz too. Uluru (Ayers Rock) is quite a popular place to visit, however it is quite pricey to get to, and I know I was put off when I found out how many people go there each day! Spectacular and an Australian icon, but also pretty much a tourist trap.
