It is true.
Is it coincidence that the U.S has the literacy rate of a 3rd world country?

People outside of this country have no idea that we're in the midst of a civil cold war or the fact that 90% of the wealth of the country is held by less than 1% of the population, or what that entails.
People within it usually don't know either, and that 1% is to blame.
Overzealous Religious fervor is largely the result of disenfranchisement, lack of education and exhaustion. It's not a mistake that the word SKOLE, from which we get scholar, school and the like, is Attic Greek for LEISURE TIME.
Without the time to think, one does not think about religion. If you work 60 hours a week on your feet to afford to come home to your trailer and pass out, you do not THINK about what you are doing or why, you just do it, like an automaton.
Keeping Americans exhausted and sick keeps us from thinking, which keeps the powerful in power.

Are Third World countries particularly zealous?
Seriously. I think of people starving and struggling just to live. They probably have more important things to do than sit around wondering about religion. That seems like more of a luxury of the civilized world. And Americans take it to heart like hardly anyone else.

this is what I think (if it help anyone)
when our hands get dirty we wash it. A guy working in a garage would need to wash his hands more often than others. Similarly, Those with dirty souls need to clean them often, thus sooooooo many Churches and denominations and the Clergies laughs all the way to the Banks. Noticed: They all drive expensive cars!!

Actually, Christianity is growing faster in third world countries than it is in the U.S., so I don't think that this saying is true.
