Do male cats go into heat? If they do and there's no females in the vicinity, will they be forced to roam around the neighborhood to look for females to mate with? If they don't and I can guarantee a no-female environment for them for the rest of their lives, then would it be ok if i DON'T neuter them?

Neutering them not only keeps them from mating, it also cuts down on some of the territorial behavior like spraying and fighting/agressiveness that males can be known for. It's best to get him neutered BEFORE he's fully grown, otherwise he'll learn some of those behaviors and show dominant tendencies even after the surgery. I know sometimes the vet charges a lot to neuter but you can also find humane society centers and such that will do it for very cheap- usually under $20 if I remember correctly. It will keep his personality more relaxed and kitten-like if you do it right away.

No, they don't go into heat or have any certain time of breeding instinct- they're always ready to go. ;-)

ONLY the females go into heat. The males will roam to find them They will get in fights and can be badly injured. They will spray the house. You neuter the male for that is the best thing to do.

I have not heard male cats go into heat. I know male cats need to be fixed... no matter if there is a female less environment for them or not... they will *spray* your property. If you do not neuter him he will roam... and explore for a female. neutering a cat does nothing to him then reduce his will to roam... and take away the glands that he uses to make his urine smell. if a male cat is not fixed... they spray. the urine that they *spray* smells and is almost impossible to get the scent out of what ever he chooses to spray on.

females are easier to deal with not being fixed. they howl all the time... but if they spray it is only horomones... females dont stink. (yes female cats that are not fixed spray... it tends to be clear... but they are releasing the horomones that male cats cover up when they spray. That is why male cats spray... and that is why it smells so badly)

hope that helps.

They don't go into heat but they WILL spray if they smell male cats outside or a female in heat out there.

Be safe, don't let the cat get into the habit of spraying which it may never stop doing. Just get him neutered.

There are health benefits in having them neutered. Male cats who have not been neutered are at greater risk of testicular cancer and prostate problems, which in some cases, can be severe enough to prevent passage of urine, leading to a ruptured bladder and death.

There may be some behavioural issues, as an un-neutered tom will be more territorial and likely to scent mark his territory if he feels it is under threat at any time.

OMG, i'm going through the same thing. i don't want to neuter him, but he is going crazy.

the window was open and there was a tiny, tiny bit of dirt from yard work on the ledge and he peed on it, and it really stinks.

i think he's marking his territory bc he's worried about another male cat who comes by for food everyday.

and when he pees in his box, there is still some left on him and it gets on the couch, etc. and it's a very strong smell.

i'm changing my mind real fast, lol.

good luck.

No, they don't. You don't need to neuter them if they'll never be around females - but they will spray.
