It is an open honest question so not at all rude. That you even consider it may be is a sign of good character on your part.
It is a good question.

It is definetly not rude. If your looking for another job, and are on friendly terms with her, why not just have a conversation with her? Like, "I just love your little scuba shop, are you looking for any more cashiers?" Or, you could just go fill out an application.
Being your boss she may be curious why you feel you need another job....but if your already a good employee, then you may have the upper hand in getting a job at her buisness.

I think you could approach your boss and tell her you are considering a second job, and was wondering if she is hiring at her "lil scuba shop". Keep it simple and do this in private.
After all she would know if you were suited for the job at her shop and compatible because she already knows your work ethic.
Go for it! Do not be hurt if she doesn't have anything available, and remember she wouldn't want it to affect your work relationship now!
All the best!

not at all! assuming you two get along, and she likes you, she'd probably be flattered. I wouldn't ask "for an application." Just some time when you are off by yourselves, just say "__________, I've really enjoyed working for you here, and i'm not sure if you knew this, but i'm a master diver (OR, I have no experience diving, but i am planning on being certified right away, and would love to work in your business after this job because i really enjoy what I know of diving. ) Be honest, As a boss myself, i'm always really impressed with employees who WANT a 2nd part time job--it shows they are very motivated and energetic, and don't like just sitting around. (not that most people w. only one job do!!! :)
But I wouldn't beat around the bush...just be open and honest and express your true interest in working for her biz...just make sure you don't have this conversation where HER boss, or any other employees can hear. I would also say "I wouldn't want it to interfere with the hours that you need me working here..."
good luck! have fun diving...i'm jealous. where do youlive?

Not at all. This is called networking. You are using your available resources.
Although, I wouldn't ask her for an application. I would ask her this question:"If I fill out an application for your scuba shop, would you consider hiring me?"
If she says yes, then pick up your own application, unless she offers to bring one in. If you start out by asking her for the application while you are on the clock at the dealership, it could cause problems with your co-workers/bosses.

sharpie, its not weird or rude in fact shell be thrown off her chair!
She may ask u to talk about it after work......
If u r good at ur present job at the car dealership and provided u did some homework on how u may increase sales and shows high interest by reading surfing all theres about the line of sales and the market demands.... u r in for big time..........
do it but prepare some groundwork as she wont just buy whatever u say and shell test you on why u would want the job and how could u improve the sales etc etc...

If you know she is hiring for the scuba shop, I would totally do it! Simply explain your situation and I'm sure she'll understand. If you do a good job at your current position I really doubt that she'll have any hesitation about employing you at her shop.
It really doesn't hurt to ask. It's called networking!
Good luck

no, it's not rude or weird. Employers want people who want to work. You don't have to play hard to get with an employer, they want you to confront them and ask for the job...it's a good sign that you want to work and that you need the money.
