In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I have been a Christian for a long time so satan can very rarely slip the past in on me. What he does do is try my patience each day a being a Christian trying to walk by the Spirit. How ever I do from time to time remind him of his future, the timing of this question is extraordinary. For the last couple weeks my internet is going off during the day and coming back on at night. No one can figure out why, I have cable internet. Anyway I have no doubt it is of the devil and just today I reminded him of where he is headed. God will solve this problem for me in time but I feel God is trying to get me to just relax, because I have just retired and my motor is still running, I've got to slow down, As for the past when you pray and ask God to take it away, believe it, and its gone, If satan flashes it by your mind, ignore it, when you ignore it enough and satan can't get you to react to it, he will give up on you and head someplace else. I loved your question, timing was perfect for me, maybe you know whats wrong with my internet, apparently I am loosing my cable signal a little during the day, at least enough to knock me off line, Good luck to you and God Bless!!

I like the way you put that...for me, all the time.
I'm starting to see those "attacks" as a pretty good sign that I'm doing something right and/or that the course of action I'm considering is one he doesn't want me to pursue. I'm learning to recognize the difference between conviction and guilt (took me long enough *smile*). If God has truly forgiven me for the mistakes I've confessed, then the only reason they could be coming back to haunt me is if satan wants me to doubt that forgiveness. God can (and has) certainly convicted me about sins that I haven't confessed to him and/or that I am still committing...and that conviction can feel an awful lot like guilt. The key to knowing the difference is to accept God's promise that he has forgiven AND forgotten all the mistakes I've confessed to him. Then, when I start feeling guilty about a mistake I know I've confessed, I can say, "shut up, Satan, you're a liar and God will make you pay for your lies."
Thanks for making me think about this today...I was having a rough morning and now I'm at peace and ready to move on to the tasks I need to complete today. Love and hugs to you!

At one time in my life he reminded me often while he was trying to convince me I was not worthy of salvation or God's Love Mercy and Grace. Then I was taught something when I gave my life to God that life was gone that person no longer existed. I allowed him to make me miserable and unsure but then I found. God knew me before I was born. He called me before I was even alive on this earth. He chose me and God is never wrong NEVER. Who am I to question. and after you remind him that you do know his future a while he will leave your past alone.

my husband is not a Christian, and I didn't used to be.
He reminds me of the things we 'used to do,'
says I'm no fun any more.
No, I still like having fun; just Different activities....
cleaned up my moral attitude...
he only says this cuz I don't get down w/ females n/e more.
Other than that, we have lots of fun.

More than I would like; to often. But I always get through it. I learned to say, "I rebuke You Satan in Jesus name I rebuke you." Someone told me everytime you mention Jesus name the devil leaves you alone because they "shudder" with fright from Jesus.
Hey, but thanks for the infor that we should remind Satan of his future. Never thought of that, and its a good advice. A star for you!

Guess what...when you point your finger at others you still have 3 fingers pointing back at you.
We will be judged as we judge. Make sure the ruler you use on others is one that you will be comfortable with when it measures you.
Sorry, I gotta call 'em the way I see 'em
Peace

All the time that is how he works. He is a destroyer and wants to destroy you and trick you all the time that is his job. He does what he is supposed to do and our job as Christians is to tear his kingdom DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! You know what when he tries to remind you of this and that just think about what God has in store for you and nothing in the world or anywhere or anyone or anything can take that from you especially not the devil.
