Are we talking about an earthly father or a Heavenly Father?

If earthly father, I'd rather one that is not around. Better to have no idea how to be a dad then to have a bad example.

If a Heavenly Father, I don't know. I have one that is always around (omnipresent), who always takes care of my needs. He teaches me right from wrong, and He tests those lessons so that I can grow stronger in my character. I am never abused by Him. Some feel they are, but they simply misunderstand the training under which He is putting them. If they just shut up and walked forward, they would persevere, learn, and be much stronger for it.

I would rather have one who was not around. If the abuse was physical , I would have beaten him half to death when I became big enough. Not having him around would save me from going to prison
Our Father who art in heaven is always around and is not abusive.

A father who is never around is better than a father who beats hell out of you. OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN

A father with history of abuse is a disease and he knows what he does. He would need professional help and avoiding that is more cruicla than allowing ti to continue'

Instead of a "father" in heaven, "god" always seemed to me to be more like the creepy, drunk uncle....in heaven.
