Migrainous headaches can last from 4 hours to several days. My longest lasted over 15 days, I lost feeling and strength down the left side of my body and ended up in the ICU as a result of the medications they used.
This caused me to go back and become a headache specialist. As a migraine patient I will tell you that 72 hours is not a maximum as I have personally had several headaches that lasted 5 or more days. As a headache specialist I will tell you that your circulatory issues may be significantly affecting you the longer this persist. Seek medical attention.
Headaches are complex problems and there is no easy solution. It is best to find out the source/cause of your recurrent or chronic headaches. Avoid bright lights and prolonged computer use.
A health care provider can pick the proper abortive medication for the acute headache and possibly prescribe a preventive medication if your headaches are too frequent.
If you feel you need to see a doctor, go to the following site prior to your visit:
www.headaches.org
In the consumer area, see the educational resources tab.
Print and fill out the headache diary as shown.
See the How to talk to your headache doctor page.
I also recommend the pages on analgesic rebound, and diet.
Do not take Imitrex of any one else’s migraine medication without a health care provider’s approval.
I have seen patients with severe hypertensive crisis bordering stroke and cardiac problems due to taking a medication which was inappropriate for them. Also there are some types of migraine which are not recommended for the new migraine wonder drugs, ie. Hemiplegic and basilar artery migraines.
There are many non medication methods which are beneficial also, such as biofeedback, and acupuncture.
Seek the assistance of your primary care clinic and if no improvement a specialist in headaches.
As a fellow migraine sufferer, I wish you the best.

This length of time probably isn't normal. You should probably see a doctor. Also, if its a migraine, I am almost certain that paracetamol won't work, they aren't strong enough. Try ibuprofen (you can take them the same time as paracetamol too). Or buy some pain relief tablets specifically for migraines.
Definitely make an appointment to see the doc though. And if you are using a computer all day at work I would go home. You can't help being ill so don't feel bad about it!

it is possible that migraine symptoms are caused by something more serious. See a doctor if you experience any of the symptoms below.
* Aura symptoms that are always on the same side of the body, or last less than five minutes or more than an hour.
* Aura symptoms without a headache.
* A sudden change in the character of your migraine such as attacks coming more often, or treatment not working.
* Headache after you exercise.
* Your first ever attack when you're over 50.
* Stomach pains with the headache.
* Nervous system problems - difficulty in walking, or disturbance of vision between attacks.
* A high temperature with the headache.

Hi, poor you, I get migraines and they have lasted up to a couple of weeks but when I have the right medication I can control them better. Try asking your Dr. if you can take a preventative tablet. I have also just been prescribed an anti sickness tablet which helps keep your digestion working which other wise slows down when you have a migraine (according to my Dr,) this will help tablets you take to work, Good luck, migraines make you feel so ill so hope you can get them sorted.

Like clock-work, my migraines come on quickly and last for at least 8 hours. For me, euphoria sets in at the end of the incident.

Some bad migraines seem to be never ending to me sometimes, until I take an anti-inflammatory medicine. I'm afraid paracetamol isn't effective enough.

That is awful! The longest one I ever had was about two days. I just slept through most of it. The computer screen can't be helping. Go to your room and sleep in the dark. That helps me! Feel better, Sweety!
