We all know that he was Loyal to Dhuryodhan, due to the frienship he got from him. Even though he knew he was fighting on the wrong side, Lord Krishna himself offered him a chance to come and fight on his own brothers side, but he said he couldn't for two reasons:

1. His obligation/duty towards his friend
2. His Actions against Dhropadi

I can understand he not wanting to fight on his brothers (rightous) side for reason 2. for he must have felt how he could look at the woman in the eye, whom he instulted so much.

But isn't reason 1 just a misguided sense of obligation?

What do you all think?

after all, we all agree that friends are suppose to guide to the path of what is right and not support you if you are doing something wrong as Dhoryodhan was doing

I think that the idea of loyalty, honor, and following one's "path" are very important in the Mahabharata. Therefore, by remaining with his original side, he was simply continuing on that path and maintaining his honor. After all, Yudhistra was very surprised to find that his opponents were also in "heaven," but he was told that they had followed their path well, and thus deserved it.

I don't think that the Mahabharata is necessarily about right or wrong in the Western sense.

When Krishna showed His Ultimate form to Arjuna, all were rushing into the fiery mouth of Krishna. Both sides. The key is in the realization that nothing but Krishna exists. He is the slayer, the slain, the weapon of slaying, the blood that seeps onto the ground, the ground itself........ Krishna is the only friend!
