I've done this since I can remember (about 5) and am now 17. Not in my own house obviously. I also crouch down (most of the time)
Most people I know just sit down.

i cant imagine not putting paper down! i even do it at work! i live with roomates and when i use their restroom i even put it down there too! its just not worth the risk of getting someone elses a** germs on you, ya know?? ewww.

At work (and at a lot of convention centers, hotels, etc.) we have these flushable toilet seat covers that mount on the stall next to the toilet paper, and come in a pack that resembles a large tissue box.
If I didn't have these and was in a public bathroom, I'd use toilet paper too. I didn't always care, but recently have begun realizing how nasty some other people can be... and would rather put the paper down!
Of course, I'm a guy, so I only have this problem when I'm not able to simply stand ;)

If the toilet looks disgusting, I put paper down before I sit (and even then I mostly crouch). At home and some other places that I trust, I sit. I think it's just cleaner to put the paper down or crouch...you don't want someone else's urine (or other things) on your private areas!!

I only do it in public toilets, never at home. I'll sometimes drop a sheet or two inside the bowl when I have to go #2, this prevents streaks, but I feel fine sitting down at home, even when I had several roommates.

I always put toilet paper down when I go to public bathrooms. It soaks up any residue from the person that used it before and it helps when those toilet seats are cold sometimes! (:

If a restroom is so nasty that I feel I have to cover the toilet in toilet paper, I'm just going to hold it until I find something cleaner!

I can't ever get myself to use public restrooms. It's icky, disgusting and overall I just don't feel comfortable peeing somewhere strangers pass by just a few meters away. Whenever I've been forced to I take great care not to touch anything.. Paranoid I know, but still.. Ew.

I do the paper thing, always have, can't bare splash back! Sometimes I run the taps if I'm in other peoples homes although I would try very hard not to go anywhere but at home.

If it isn't wet or have feces on it then I sit down without putting paper on it. The secret is to keep your hands and mouth off of it. Just shower night and day.
