I work for company for 2 and a half years and now make 13.11 an hour (which btw is very good in alabama).... I have excellent benefits and health/dental insurance. I have a husband and two sons on my insurance along with life insurance for all of us. I was offered a job delivering mail with usps for 17.51/hr but there is no insurance. I would make more money, but....... i dont know.. My husband could maybe get insurance at his job but it would cost alot more a month.

what would you do?

If ya got kids, ya gotta have insurance. The extra money you make at the postal job would be enough to pay for insurrance. It kinda evens out The bottom line on any job is finding one you like, because even if yer making more money, and yer misserable...whats the point?

I usually figure that family health care & dental & vision care is worth about $5.50 /hour (or $1000/month). Figure how much you're paying out of pocket for heath care premiums, divide by 180 (number of hours in average month) then add to $$$ per hour raise you're going to get. See if it adds up.

Also most USPS people I know work lots of overtime, so you may want to figure that in. Rural carriers also get a generous write off for mileage (of course, you'll need to maintain your own car).

Good luck in your decision.

i'd stick with the first one. for $4 less your getting so much more. to be sure have your husband check so see exactly how much more it would be and weigh out the difference.
is the physical work between the 2 the same. you might have to work harder at one than the other.
