The recipe calls for red or white wine. I've never cooked with sherry before. Do you think it would taste the same?

I do have some white wine in the fridge. Should I just use it anyway? I just didn't want to "cook" with it as it is not a cheap wine. Does anyone know for sure about using the cooking sherry?

please dont use the sherry.
I make a marinara without wine and its pretty good .
save the white for drinking
3 large cans whole Italian plum tomatoes
3 tablespoons olive oil; more if needed
5 large cloves garlic, thinly sliced,
1 medium-large onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon red chile flakes
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1/4 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
3 anchovy fillets
Pinch granulated sugar, only if needed
of course this is a large batch so cut it or if you want freeze part of it .
good luck><>

I'd never ever use a wine in my cooking that didn't taste good by the glass. Cooking sherry is nasty tasting...go with the white wine. Why spoil your marinara sauce with a bad tasting sherry?

I would just Omit the wine.. Not use Cooking sherry. If you want to make a substitution use the below ingredients.

{Substitute for 1 cup of wine}
1/2 cup broth
1/2 cup cider vinegar
Tsp fresh lemon juice

I'd pitch the cooking sherry. It' typically full of salt. Never cook with any wine or spirits that you wouldn't be willing to drink.

I would just omit it as sherry does not go well with marinara. Use white wine or nothing at all.

Marinara doesn't call for any wine - only bolognese sauce does.

Definitely no sherry in any italian sauce.
