I'd reduce it to a 50 dollar fine and no jail time.. but only if the butt is completely exposed.. but 6 months for something like that is ridiculous!

While I think a jail sentence may be too extreme for baggy pants, I do think fines are appropriate.
I, for one, am sick of seeing people with the waist of their pants at their crotch and the crotch of their pants at their knees. I do not want to see other people's underwear. It's called UNDERwear for a reason...it belongs UNDER clothes.
This "fad" is truly one that has been getting on my nerves. I don't care where it originated or why...I only hope it is one that passes quickly. It does not look "cool" or whatever phrase is used to describe it...it just looks like someone's mother didn't teach them how to dress properly. It looks stupid and completely senseless.
Several major cities have proposed bans on baggy pants and shorts. I support it 100%.
I can only say "Pull your pants up!! I don't want to see your underwear."
The same goes for females who wear those low waisted pants or shorts and whose underwear (mostly thongs and g-strings are clearly visible. It is just as repulsive. Even worse is when they go commando and show off everything they have.
Another poster mentioned "goth" dressers. I don't like that fad either but they are not (mostly, that is) crossing the line of indecent exposure. If they were, the government would probably step in here also. Most goth dressers that I have seen tend to cover up almost completely...with long, black clothing that show little skin...if any.
Wear what you want...just keep it decent. As for the baggy pants...wear a belt and keep the waist where it should be...at the WAIST...not the crotch.

This law is completly rediculous. The goverenment is starting to take away your rights.
It will eventually will be apealed and thrown out.
Mostly anyone sagging their pants will have boxers on underneath. Boxers are just as long as some shorts that males/females wear.
Sag all you want, get a lawyer and you wont get a single fine or any jail time.
Another reason things won't work for the police is because unless they are providing the belts or tighter pants, they can't fine you. Clothes are clothes, they just don't like your style.

Our politicians are overstepping their boundaries because of a few vocal constituents. This is why you have to vote. And what next, will they be going to every house with an overweight plumber? I highly doubt it.
No, it's BS. And unbelievable that it is even being considered in a free country.
But, as I always see both sides, it obviously looks trashy, and baggy pants can keep you from getting a job, but it is your right to look like an idiot.
I wonder what these cities (Atlanta was/is considering it too) will do when their crime rates go up? I know that the cops are able to catch many more of these young boys after they commit crimes because their pants trip them up. And I say natural selection is a good thing.

No it's not fair to attack one group of people because you don't agree with their attire. We live in America, where supposedly "freedom" is everything. Why not impose such a law on "Goth" dressers or "Cross" dressers? If they're allowed in public to dress and express themselves freely, why can't people who want to wear saggy pants? I think it's targeting black youth (and no I'm not pulling a race card, just speaking honestly) and it's not fair at all. Now if you want to take it further and insist that public nudity is the main problem, what about these young girls with the small midriff baring tops and super low cut thong baring jeans? Why not target them as well? I think we are turning into a Big Brother society and we as a people are not fighting back.

Yes, it's fair. And it's right.
Whenever I see a wannabee running around with his pants pulled down below his cheeks and his BVDs showing, I just have to laugh. That "fashion trend" started in NY State prisons back in the late 70's - early 80's. It is a convict's way of advertising that he is willing to take it up the butt.
Go ahead and pull your pants down next time you go out on the street. And hope that you don't run across any ex-cons.

I see people writing about how stupid it would be to pass a law like that in such a FREE country as this one.
But!!!!!! Where do we stop?
I, like many other people in this country do not like to see other peoples asses hanging out of their pants. Regardless of the reason. However! I don't see or hear of anyone threatening to lock up plumbers because of it. And, believe me, that can be a pretty disturbing sight.
I suppose that they will try to institute one-piece uniforms for all the GOOD boy and girls to ware. Just like in "1984" by George Orwell. That way no one is offended.

Is it fair that we have to look at the butts of these young men?
The worst part about this particular fashion (aside from the part where it makes these young men look like thugs) is that they can't see their own behinds. They are inflicting them on the rest of us. It's not right.
By the way, if you dress like that, and women cross the street when you're coming their way, and the cops hassle you more - you don't get to cry profiling.
You look like a thug, you get treated like one.

You are completely correct, this law isnt fair to people who prefer to dress like clowns. If those people dont like it, I have a legal and fair solution. Election Day is coming soon, go vote people into office, who are sympathetic to your sense of style. It takes much less effort to vote, than whining about the unfairness of laws that arent even passed yet.

Nowadays in US government is trying to control your life as much as they can. There are so much different police in the US that very soon they will assign 1 police officer to each and every citizen. This officer will be living in your home and even will control your intimate life such us if your husband can or cannot use saggy condoms, etc. And government claims that terrorists want to take away your freedom. But what freedom?Sad isn't it?
