I mean, in reality all you have is the speculation written down in an ancient set of books written by people who had no way to prove what they were writing, and still have no way of proving today. If you can't prove it, there's no way to know that you aren't being misled.

When you talk about faith being the reason you know something is true, you are really just saying that you can't prove it, but you hope it is true. This is dangerous thinking, because if your well being is dependent on it, you really should have some proof that what you place your faith in is true. I know some of you like to think that your particular holy book contains the truth, but it really doesn't.

Think of it this way, would you allow someone to operate on your insides, knowing that the book they're using is two-thousand years old and does not contain any information that has been proven to be true? What if their patients died soon after, almost every time, because "it was just their time to go"?

You can go on faith, and ignore all the people that died after seeing this person, but is that really smart? Would you trust your children's lives to such a person? How about your wife? Wouldn't you rather see someone with factual information and a proven track record of highly successful surgeries and a high success rate?

Which is better: faith in a longshot that you'll never know until you die, or faith in proven methods that have results you can see and prove?

Be honest with yourself, lying to me doesn't get you any points or get you into heaven and it doesn't affect me in any way. It's YOUR life that you're gambling with, you're the one that stands to lose out on time, money, and relationships based on faulty teachings.

morningstar, can you prove this? Can you prove that Muslims don't get into heaven? What about Jews, they don't believe in Jesus, and they had that particular god before christianity was even thought of.

you are right. there is no accurate proof for any of the gods, including the chrisitan one. The only thing I have to go on is my faith.

The thing is, have lived my life without my faith, and with my faith, and even if my faith is wrong, I would take it any day than living without it.

You're right -- the biggest problem with religion is when people mistake faith for fact.
