My daughter is 5 and she was a very healthy kid - she had cold maybe 3-4 times only... but she started a kindergarten recently and in less then a month she already was sick 3 times - cold, flu, ear infection. I don't think it's a coincidence. Is it common? Would she be sick on regular basis now or it would go away?

As soon as I put her on the school bus for the first day of kindergarten she was sick till4th grade it seemed!... I thought I was doing so good keeping her well all those years, but all I was doing as it turns out was Keeping her immune system from developing immunities.... Keep your eye out for strep throat......P.S. She is 16 now and fine....only misses about 5 days of school all year now..... don't sweat it.... and good luck!

There are several good comments here while yet seeming only to pasify a situation...

What you must find out is if other children in that kindergarten class are having the same problem. Talk to other parents to learn about this. ..

If it is common to the majority then it is obvious airborne microbes in the room are the source of the problem and the school must make provisions to correct the problem...

If the problem is unique to just your child or perhaps one or two others then it may just be an allergy situation. Your family doctor will have the best advice for this situation...

Do NOT fill your child with over-the-counter remedies as this can add to the problem and further jeopardize your childs' health. Allow your family doctor to make the right decisions before a bad thing grows worse...

My wife teaches first grade, and some of her kids have health issues at the beginning of the school year. For some, it is a matter of building up immunities to the germs that are inevitably present in a group of young children. Other factors might be season allergies and closed classrooms. Is she adjusting well? This could also be a factor. What your child is experiencing is not uncommon. Keep a close eye on her health (and her attitude), but it will probably get better with time.

Yes it is more common for children to be sick when around a lot of other children, example: school/daycare. Its best to try and instill proper handwashing to your daughter now at an early age so that she will develop this as she gets older. You would be amazed at the children who don't wash their hands!

As with all children, they touch everything and then touch their faces, mouths, noses, etc.

I remember one school year my son got strep 3 times and 2 intestinal viruses.....rough year. Good luck!

It goes that way. Remember she needs to adjust to some of the germs that she comes in contact with outside her usual environment. She is now with many kids who may be sick sometimes and she gets some bacteria from them.

Its normal and will strengthen her immune. After she adjusts, she wont be so sickly.

I think you shouldn't worry for your child.
She is mixing with alot of kids in the kindergarten, they are playing and kids spread the cold faster than adults.

I think you should speak to the supervisors in the KG, they have to take more care of the children.

It's a big germ pool. They all need to wash their hands more often and not share supplies. Our kindergarten puts all of the crayons and such in a big box in the middle of the table for about 6 of them to share. Big Mistake! Just try to get her to understand how important it its to wash her hands frequently.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on having your adorable daughter starting school. I'm sure she will do great in school in the years to come.

Second of all, if your daughter is sick, then take her to a doctor and explain to him or her about her condition. No one likes to be sick on the first day of school. Make sure that she takes her vitamins and minerals, and I'm sure that she will be super duper fine in a day or two, I hope.
