It was prophesied. There cannot be a 'great falling away' unless there was a 'great coming together'. I do not wonder at it, for it was foretold.

It may be true that the first settlers were Christians (Puritans being a kind of Christian). But the founding fathers wanted this to be a country where all faiths (including no faith) were welcome. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, "If My neighbor believes in no God or 20 Gods, it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

And secondly, Christianity is not being destroyed. The majority of Americans believe in a deity and it would be all but impossible for an avowed atheist to be elected to high office.

All that's happening in this country is that other groups (who maybe were not there originally but are here now) are tired of hiding in the background. There is a difference between persecution and being asked to share.

And even if Christianity is taking some heat, take heart. Religions are not destroyed by opposition. Because they are based on faith, feeling oppressed or on the verge of destruction is what puts the pep and ginger back into them. What really destroys a religion is the mellowing of feelings from having ones way too often. Christians should be thanking all us heathens for giving you something to stay on your toes about.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Where did you go to school?

Puritans only settled in (some of) the northeastern colonies. Catholics founded the Maryland colony. The rest were Anglican with a sprinkling of Baptist and other Protesteant religions. You've also conveniently forgotten the religions of the various native peoples along the Eastern seaboard. Jews arrived in the colonies very early on (17th century). I've never seen stats on Muslims in the colonies, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few were here then as well.

There were thousands of religions in the Americas before the Europeans came. Each of the native peoples that populated the Western Hemisphere had their own unique religious beliefs and practices. And, as the Europeans enslaved, raped, and murdered their way across every inch of the New World, many native people may have asked the same question you did,"Why ,is the religion of this country being destroyed, when its the one that settled and brought it about?" They didn't receive any more revelation from on high than you have. Quite simply, their need, as yours, to understand reality within the context of a set of irrational beliefs, arbitrary dogmas, and primitive superstitions left them unable to respond to the crisis they faced. Until you are willing to accept the sheer extent to which religion is inadequate to help you cope with life in the modern world, much less to help create solutions to the crises that humanity faces, then you can expect to feel bewildered, lost, perhaps even threatened as the reality of modern human civilization continues to progress far, far beyond the bible's woefully inadequate and primitive "answers".

There most certainly were Jews and Catholics. In fact, a great number of Catholics since the French and Spanish were Catholic countries and they were a huge number of the early colonizers especially in the south, the west and up the Mississippi valley to the Great Lakes and Canada.

This country was not founded on religion. It was founded on the premise that everyone has the right to worship as they choose. Read the Declaration of Independence for heaven's sake.

Well first off you are wrong. This country was not founded by any religion. Those are lies spread by the religous right. The only reason any of the people that came to this country from Europe practiced religion, was because they had to or they were punished. Most of the people coming here were either forced here ... or escaped here to get away from religion.

This country was already inhabitated by American Indians of which none of them were christians.

The religion of this country is being destroyed because it is run by corrupt and immoral people. Organized religion in general is corrupt and I would like to see it all go away. Everyone should be free to have their own personal relationship with God and not be dictated by people like you telling them how or when to worship.

Christians wiped out the majority of North America's religions years ago. Let us not even start with other countries.

The first Jewish settlers came to the U.S in 1654.

The Revolutionary War was funded largely by, guess who, Sephardi Jews.

Research before you post such fallacies. Misconceptions such as yours are part of the destruction of the U.S.

Also google 'Mikveh Israel' in Philadelphia, you will find some good historic data on early jewish communities.

Well, to be historically accurate...there were people here for about 9,000 years before the Puritans and other Christians arrived. They didn't "settle" so much as steal and pillage the land that was already settled.

Change is the nature of world.

Religion has a purpose, when it defaults beyond limits causing miseries to people, forgetting "Live and let live" principal, it gets destroyed with its people with time.
