In California, are there destinctly Republican or Democratic cities?

Certain cities yes but not all.

Most counties are pretty much one or the other:

LA, SF = Democrats
OC, SD = Republicans

ALL State/Federal districts are gerrrymandered to be either Republican or Democratic.

Santa Barbara has a reputation for being polluted with liberals. I am surprised any time a Republican gets elected to anything in California.
