I ordered an item from ebay from a UK based seller and paid a price including VAT. A few days afterwards I received a package from China containing the item. I contacted my seller and he told me that since he didn't have any in stock he ordered it directly from the supplier.

About a month later I receive a bill from customs. I phoned them and told them my contract is with a UK supplier and I've already paid all taxation. They said they've got to check if they've made a mistake and they'll call me in 10 days time.

Should I be concerned? Do I have to pay?

I agree that I have to pay the tax on the item. I bought it in the UK and paid the VAT on it.
Now I am being asked to pay the tax for it as if I bought it from China (which I didn't). This is paying the same tax twice.

First, it depend on your business terms with UK seller, if the price include import duty and other tax. it looks you needn't pay it any more.

ISecond! It depends on:
1.if you are out of UK, you have to pay tax because you are importing this item.
2. If you are in UK, i think your business terms with your UK seller is UK seller should import and pay the tax and charge it back to you.(your price already include it and seller should return back to you)

Good luck!
