Heres how your girlfriend can have a brand new recycle bin.

1) Right click the Vista Desktop
2) Click on Personalize
3) Select: 'Change desktop icons'
4) At the Desktop Icon Settings, place a tick next to: 'Recycle Bin'.

Hey, firstly can I congratulate her on such an impressive action! :P

To recover / re-install items:

Click on Start Button
Select Control Panel from the menu

Now assuming that you are looking at the Control Panel menu from the Classic view (Easy to switch between the two, just use the option - Says switch to Classic View - on the left hand side of the window that has opened)

Select Add / Remove Programs

Select Add Remove Windows Components for the menu bar at the left

Now scroll down to the Recycle Bin option and, hey presto, (fingers crossed) Recycle Bin

Alternatively

Use system restore and go to a point before the deletion occured (this is the easiest option! :) )

Below you will find two methods of restoring your Recycle Bin to your desktop:

Method #1:

1. Right-click an empty area of your desktop
2. Select Properties
3. Click the Desktop tab
4. Click the Customize button
5. Click Restore Default
6. Exit all windows and restart your computer

Method #2:

Note: Be sure to make a backup copy of your registry prior to making any changes.

Go to Start>> Run. Type in: regedit [Enter]

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

Hold the mouse on NameSpace and right-click once. From the resulting menu, select Edit>> New>> Key

Copy and Paste the following Key code (including the brackets):

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

Press Enter on your keyboard, exit the registry editor and restart your system.

Rather than being rude and calling her half witted, you should call her clever. To get rid of the bin is not that easy, it's not as if you can just click on it and press delete. At least I presume you mean the icon for the recycle bin, not the contents?

Hand her the computer manual, and go find a girl you can respect. Really, do you deserve a woman you think is a half-wit for a little computer mistake?

Leaving her would probably be win-win for both of you.
