Genesis 1:26 of the Holy Bible, King James Version, states: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Please note “us” and “our”, meaning God is plural. There are more than one person in God.

Genesis 1:27 states: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Please note that here, God is singular – “his” and “he”. Initially, God created he (man) in His image. Next, God created them as male and female. Initially, God seemed to have created man to be a spirit like Him, like His image. Next, God created this spirit to dwell in physical bodies which are male and female.

Then God blessed them. Genesis 1:28 states: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the ear, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

let me answer the 'image' question.

only human beings in all creation were made in God's image. we don't know what the phrase 'God's image' covers, but we do know some of it's aspects, it includes;

a) we are spiritual beings like God - we have immortal spirits that will outlast our earthly bodies.

b) we are intellectual - we can think, reason and solve problems.

c) we are ralational - we can give and receive real love.. and

d) we have moral consciousness - we can discern right from wrong, which makes us accountable to God.

God is a Spirit and He created a spirit in each of us to communicate with Him! That is the most awesome part of the whole Creation. We can communicte with and glorify our creator.Regarding the we and us argument the word for WATER in Hebrew is a Plural word, often times the Pluralization represents vastness. The Bible clearly teaches that God is one I could list over 75 passages that either directly or by inference state that. The main one is Deut 6:4, Hear O Israel the Lord our God is One.

What a very interesting and thoughtful question! I think you might enjoy reading Dorothy L Sayers book "The Mind of the Maker", in which she deals chiefly with man as maker or creator, but always drawing parallels between our making, and God's "making" or creating.

She is a wonderful writer, if you don't know her already, and has some fascinating things to say about man (I mean mankind) "making" - building, designing, writing, sculpting, painting, manufacturing, you name it. Always she is drawing parallels between the "Idea" - or the "Image" - that comes before any creating or making can happen, as in your Genesis quote - first God had the Idea, the Image in His mind, then he created man in that Image...you get the picture?

Try the book - I think you'll find it helpful, and probably enjoy it enormously.

Hold it! you were taught that it means plural. But that teaching does NOT make it so. I just believe there is more to it than that. Note only God's words, not a religion has the answer. What about the heavenly host? Even the MORNING STARS< and the SONS OF GOD?>>>>>Job. Now I think, (no do not know) that it has something to do with the (risen) Spiritual body. I'm learning more & more.

Do people actually take the bible literally these days? Damn...Actually Man created gods in their image...because they had no other way of explaining things. Some other cultures used animals as well. Look into it..it's interesting.

It is the inner man, not the physical man, as God is spiritual, not physical. Our physical form is merely the most agreeable, suitable, and efficient for our purposes both spiritual and physical in this temporary physical realm of existence.
