I hired a photographer for my brother's wedding reception and he didnt turn up. Instead he sent a guy who we had used for the engagement and HATED!! He didnt call or anythign to say he wasnt coming, he just sent ths other awful photographer.
We saw te pics yesterday and they are awful. The colors are wrong. The makeup looks weird, there are some awful poses. There are no pics of the guests or even that many of the famly. There is not a single photo of my son - the bride and groom's only nephew/ringbearer.
I amn't sure what to do about it. The pics are awful quality too. They look like someone took them on their mobile phone. Severeal guests at the wedding took pictures and they turned out AMAZING. The bride looked stunning. But in the "professional" pics she looks ODD. This was the first boy's wedding in my family in 30years and our family is very upset. Can I sue the photographer or make him pay for rehiring of kilts and redoing makeup and he can redo the whole shoot??

You can try taking him to small claims court. Bring the pictures, bring the contract, & bring the "amazing" pictures your friends took as an example of the poor quality of this "professional." Good luck.

That depends. You need to review the contract very carefully. Lots of photographers have assistants or additional photographers who work for them and take the wedding pictures sometimes. Unless the contract states that a particular photographer from this firm will be taking these wedding pics, I am not sure you have a case on that.

Secondly, did you meet with the photographer and actually hand him a list or make a list with him of the specific pictures you wanted? Because if you did, and he did not take those, then you may have a case on that. If you did not ever talk to him about the actual specific shots you wanted taken, and of whom, then some of the blame on that lies with you. You cannot assume that a photog. will automatically know which shots you want. Every wedding is different. If you relied on him to make the decisions as to which shots to take, then that is the chance you took.

Did you have a contract? What did it say? In some cases, if you had a contract, then you might have a case. Depending on the laws of your state, you might have a case. If the deal was just that a photographer would show up and take pictures, then you don't have a case. Check the contract. Most professional photographers have a contract for you and he to sign at the time of hiring him.

You could definitely take him to court. And personally, I wouldn't hesitate to!
However, the first thing I would do is call the originial photographer and tell him to give you your money back and let him know that he owes you and the couple an apology and an explanation. If he gives you both in a polite fashion, don't take him to court. If he refuses even one of the things you ask, have your lawyer on the phone immediately.
What a horrible thing for someone to do on such an important day! I certainly hope you get this situation cleared up!

Good luck!

It depends on what's in the contract. Typically they will have a coverage statement with info like you are hiring the "company" and anyone from the company can take the pictures. Unless you have it in your contract specifically that the master photographer would be taking the photos you probably don't have much room to argue.

Read the contract carefully and make sure it does not say a replacement may be sent. Also, you may want to talk to the photographer first. See what he is willing to do to correct the situation before taking him to court.

If the second guy was not competent as a photographer, you can sue the first guy and likely recover. In most places you have one year and one day from the time you knew or should have known of your injury (i.e. crappy photos)

Did you use a credit card? Dispute it with the card issuer and get your money back! Hurry, time is not on your side.

I'd say check the contract very carefully. If it says he or a representative, you're probably out of luck. If it says he will take the photos, you have something to work with.

I wonder why you'd still use that company after the engagement pix were terrible.

Next time hire a real photographer, not the cheapest wannabe you can find. You could try to sue, but if they have no money you likely won't be able to collect.

Unless there is a clause in the contract which says he can send a representative in his place, you may sue and possibly win the case.
