It's got a lot of filler in it. If you can get Canidae easily where you are, you might try it. There isn't that much difference in cost. Sometimes we can't get Canidae in at the clinic, so I use the SD canned puppy.

No, It is not a good food. All you have to do to see this is true is compare the label on your Science Diet to a label on Purina dog chow or Ole Roy. VERY similar.. The reason vets push the 'crap' is because they make money off of it. It also has a very deceiving name. 'Science' diet. It's totally laughable! It is named that way to sell food to PEOPLE not because it is good for dogs.
Hills pays for Veterinary Scholarships so vets say Thank You by lining their walls with it.
People need to wise up here. First of all you are paying WAY to much for a bag of corn. Second, Learn how to read a dog food label. Third, do not buy foods because of WHO is selling it or telling you it is good. Forth, IT DOES NOT TAKE A SCIENCTIST to feed a dog.
It's all propaganda to sell you something. The food is total JUNK. I don't care how shiney your dogs coat is. Shiney coats happen for all kinds of reasons. The reason kibble fed dogs have a shiney coat is because the food is sprayed with FAT before it gets bagged.
Do yourself a favor and read the label, learn what the ingredients really are and don't buy things because they have deceiving names. Some buzz words are 'Science' Natures, All natural, organic, holistic.
When it comes to kibble there is NO SUCH thing as all natural or holistic. There is nothing natural about feeding a dog grains. There is nothing 'holistic' about ANY species being made to eat the same food day in and day out for its entire life.
Here is an EXCELLENT article to help you learn the truth about dog food.

I run a pet shop and we sell Hills.
We also sell 45+ other complete diets ,and can order in 400+ others withing 24 hours.
Hills is an OK food, but it is very overpriced. You only need to look at the amount you need to feed each day, to realise that thats ALOT of food. Why? Because most of it is of no use and just pooped out. If you are happy spending that knid of money, have a look at Eukanuba / Iams or Royal Canin. If you have a good local petshop, go and speak to them - remember, they are not tied to any brands, like your vets often are.
And good luck - you will get a different answer from everyone you ask! lol You are best to choose one person whos advise you trust, and stick with it!

I'm sorry but it's NOT a good food for your dog.... it's like feeding him Mcdonald's everyday... some of the best are Innova, Timberwolf, GO, Nature's Variety... etc. here's a site where you can look for the best dog foods available... (I recommend the 6 or 5 star)

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php

but i still suggest you feed your dog an all natural diet... because the no. 1 food your dog should eat is raw meat... next best is cooked meat then premium dog foods... then moist dog food, lastly is the kibble... this is according to the episode of Oprah she made for dog lovers like her.. the best meat for the dog is lamb, then chicken, then beef or fish and lastly pork...

well goog luck on the health of your dog... just don't feed him science diet..

No it isn't a good food. It has way too much corn and other cheap fillers in it as well as by products.
There are far better foods out there for the same or slightly more in price..some good choices:
Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Solid Gold, Innova,Premium Edge, percise just to name a few.

If your dog does well on it yes, if not then no. I have a 14 year old dog that does great on the prescription i/d canned food and this is after trying so many other premium foods. It's what your dog does well on.

Yes. My dog loves science diet. When we took him to the vet again in January he gave us a free 5lb bag that I mixed with Duke's regular dog food. He dug through his other dog food to get to the science diet pieces. It is a little pricey tho. I know if you get on an automated delivery system off petco.com it save like 5 dollars a bag. If you buy in the petco store, every tenth bag is free.

In my opinion, it's garbage. There are too many fillers (corn is the second ingredient and that's not a good thing!) and by-products. There are much better brands out there. Some of them are Canidae, Innova, Merrick, Timberwolf Organics, Flint River Ranch, Wellness, Solid Gold, and Orijen. I would recommend you look into one of those for your dog.
