Rubella vaccine (German measles vaccine) contains viral strains propagated in human cells - "WI-38 human diploid lung fibroblasts". The growth culture used is a solution containing buffered salts, fetal bovine serum, human serum albumin and neomycin, etc.

As rubella vaccine comes togeteher with mumps and measles vaccines (MMR Vaccine), it will be worthwhile giving the other details as well.

Both mumps and measles vaccine contain viral strains propagated in chick embryo cell cultured in a eosin-methylen blue agar (EMB) which contains methylene blue.

MMR vaccine does not contain substance from pig.

A rubella vaccine contains dead or weakend germs which cannot affect you, but will make your immune system respond and work out how to destory the real germ should it ever attack you.

The pathogens (scinetific word for germs) in some vaccines (such as the flu vaccine) are grown in animals, but the vaccine itself doesn't contain animal substances.

If it's allergies you're worried about, I would recommend you raise it with your doctor. If it's moral or ethical grounds, don't worry; making the vaccines does not hurt the animal in question.
If it's religious grounds, I can't really comment, being atheist, and your beleifs are yours, but I woudl recommend getting the vaccine as it doesn't doesn't contain any animal substances per se, and the protection you get will work.

Dear emmy_vanilla's,
there is a vaccine called MMR that protects us against measles, mumps and rubella.
it is a mixture of live attenuated viruses.
the rubella virus is propagated using a human cell line (WI-38 human diploid lung fibroblasts).
so it doesnt contain any substance from animal, dont worry!
