As part of a well-baby/well-child visit, your child's doctor should do a "developmental screening" asking specific questions about your baby's progress. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) lists five behaviors that signal further evaluation is warranted:
~Does not babble or coo by 12 months
~Does not gesture (point, wave, grasp) by 12 months
~Does not say single words by 16 months
~Does not say two-word phrases on his or her own by 24 months
~Has any loss of any language or social skill at any age.
A child showing these behaviors should have further evaluations by a multidisciplinary team. This team may include a neurologist, psychologist, developmental pediatrician, speech/language therapist, or learning consultant.

Usually 2 year old kid are not developing yet when it comes of talking, some are trying to speak straight and some are still in practicing talking.....so there's nothing to worry about...So my advise to you is keep talking your daughter like a big girl....

If she doesn't say anything at all, I'm going to recommend that you speak about this to her pediatrician. This will rule out any medical problems you're worrying about. Or, the diagnosis may indicate a problem (I hope not). In any case, it can't hurt to speak to a doctor. You're obviously concerned, or you wouldn't be asking us this question. Good luck and God bless.

One of my 2yo twin boys cannot talk.
He is almost completely deaf due to glue ear. So he cannot hear us when we speak, unless it's very quiet!
Have a talk to your local GP, there may be an underlying problem. If he/she won't give you answers go and seek a second opinion.

It means absolutely nothing.
At the age of two years, the vocabulary of most infants is not very great anyway. Given time, and lots of encouragement, your daughter, at the age of three, will probably come out with all of the `Gettysberg address` by Abe Lincoln!
Then you should worry!

My brother had a similar problem & couldn't talk when he was 2, even with an older sister (me) around. Mum took him to a speach therapist & now (21 years later) you would never guess he struggled with it

I think most parents worry about this, I know I did.
All you can do is keep talking to her and telling her the name of things when you pass them to her like milk, apple e.t.c try not anticipating what she wants and she might make an effort to ask for it.

Just don't stress over it, kids feel when their parents are outta whack. Find some kids videos with music and sing along when when you watch with her. Just make sure it is a song that won't drive you batty, because when she does start, it's nevah gonna end.
