I think Science Diet is overpriced, over publicized crap.
Royal Canin has some iffy ingredients to me, but it is definitely a better choice than Science Diet.
Royal Canin for Chi's (first 10 ingredients)
Chicken meal, brown rice, brewers rice, oatmeal, soy isolate, chicken fat, natural chicken flavor, chicken, dried egg powder, dried beet pulp (sugar removed)
Science Diet Adult Original (first 10 ingredients)
Chicken, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Ground Whole Grain Wheat, Chicken By-Product Meal, Soybean Meal, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal, Brewers Rice, Chicken Liver Flavor
Science diet has too many cheap fillers for their first 10 ingredients.

Royal Canin is better (but still not great). Science Diet has corn in it. That's not good. I recommend brands like Canidae, Innova Evo, Solid Gold, Timberwolf, Flint River. All human grade ingredients and no fillers (such as corn).
This website gives tons of good information and ratings about the different brands. Also lots of good info about dog nutrition in general.

Neither one is a good food..RC is a little better then SD but not by much. You'ld do a lot better feeding your dogs a better quality food such as Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Merrick, Solid Gold, Innova, Premium Edge, Percise just to name a few.

I don't like either of them. I would recommend a high quality brand such as Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Flint River Ranch, Wellness, Merrick, Solid Gold, and Innova.

Depends on the dog, the type of food, and lots of other things. I have a 14 yr. old shih tzu on Science Diet i/d canned and he does great. On any Royal Canin he didn't do well.
That doesn't mean one brand is better than the other as it goes by how your dog does on it.

I would also not feed either one of those foods, to my dogs. I have 5 Chihuahuas, and I feed all of mine, Canidae All Life Stages! It's high quality, human grade, all natural, very reasonably priced, naturally preserved, made in the USA, has NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers, by products, preservatives or dyes in it. It is great at preventing allergies or skin problems. Chihuahuas are known to be very picky eaters. My Chihuahuas love it, have never been sick at all, in fact, the vet I take them to, is really surprised at how healthy they all are. It is not sold in a lot of stores. If you go to this site: http://www.canidae.com/dogs/all_life_stages/dry.html, click on the Store Locator Link, and type in the city you live in, it will bring up a list of the stores in your area that carry it.

You can go to this site and get ratings on all different dog foods and make an informed decision yourself. We feed Canidae. Never knew how much crap was in store bought foods prior to getting our puppy. Found out from reading on this site. www.dogfoodanalysis.com
