in my experience....frustrating and boring. some places where you have a lot of "action" it was frustrating, because my job was to deter crime, not chase after some dudes stealing taka vodka,(they couldnt even get to the good stuff), and risk my health and safety,(keep in mind they didnt provide health insurance). but now i'm with a better company and its boring. like some of the other people said, sit in the lobby at a desk. interior/exterior patrol once every hour, or some places, whenever you want, then sit back down, get on the computer, "surf the web", read a book, eat and get fat,(damn, i have to start exercising more). maybe its because i mostly work grave shift. swing and morning shifts are a little more active, but you have to deal with supervisors watching you, employees watching you, making sure you're doing your job, being assholes,(not all the time though). security is good if you plan on moving to another career like the military or a police officer or if you plan on moving up in the company. if thats not your life goal then its only good with suppling income while you make other moves to achieve your life goal,(thats what i do).

Most of them are extremely boring. Depends on the place you work. Night security guards just sit in a booth and walk around the perimeter once an hour or so.
Office building guards sit at a desk and look at monitors and walk around the building once in a while.
Good work if you can find it but very tedious. Working on a Brinks Truck isn't quite as boring.

Low pay, boring job, tedious routine, strange hours, clients who expect you to risk your life for them.

On the plus side, I know a number of officers who pull in decent money working security gigs, part time. A number of retired, high-ranking, officers manage, own, or hold high positions in some security corporations. After I retired, I did a about a two year stint as a "security consultant" for one of the major security companies. Pretty good money for just telling people what their common sense already told them.

Boring and low paid.
They really need to upgrade training and pay for that job!
You get "Fat Jimmy" who lives with his parents making $10 an hour un-armed and un-trained and sometimes being responsable for millions of dollars worth of property!
And companies wonder why they get robbed!
That whole industry needs a major overhaul!
"Security by the lowest bidder."
It's rediculous!

It's hard to understand any more. I see that they have a lot of weaklings and elderly men and women doing it, and most are unarmed.

Apparently, it's like a position of checking locked doors, ect, but that's about it, judging by the appearance of things.

I used to think that it's for actual protection, like police work.
