Hi all,
I'm French and need to translate a document with this sentence "Where this leaves xxx is not clearly known". Could someone express it differently, cause I'm not sure of the meaning ?
I understand something like "We don't know at which point/level xxx is concerned", is it correct or not?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Your answer, which considers degree of involvement, is not quite right.

The sentence means "It is not clear what xxx's situation is now." or "It is not clear what xxx's standing is now."

The sense is more political,or social, than geographical.

Bon chance!

It just means that the people concerned do not really know what will happen to XXX in the near future after whatever needs to be done is over with, that's all.

En d'autres termes, ils se demandent ce qu'il va arriver à XXX car son avenir est maintenant incertain...

Izzpill's answer is quite good, although the expression is generally used a bit more metaphorically than that. "What effect this will have on xxx is not known." (Ce qui va arriver à xxx dans telle situation on ne sait pas.)

I'm guessing that there has been some reorganisation and the expression you highlight indicates that Person xxx may not be required in the new structure, or may have to take a job that he/she doesn't want within the organisation. Think in terms of French 'rester' rather than 'laisser.'

Où cela laisse XXX, nous ne le savons pas exactement.

What position this leaves XXX in is not clearly known.

"On ne sait pas exactement à quel point cela laisse xxx"
"On ne sait pas exactement dans quelle situation/position cela laisse xxx "
"On ne sait pas exactement où cela met/positionne xxx."

suivant le contexte.

Your sentence "We don't know at which point/level xxx is concerned" would mean "On ne sait pas à quel point /niveau xxx est impliqué" .

I've never heard that expression. But it's late, so maybe I'm just not thinking deep enough. It's not a common expression though (if it is one), I can tell you that much. Sorry I'm no help.
