I am curious to know as there have been several times that I have taken this medication and ended up with diarrhea (due to eating some kinds of fruits, or artificial sweeteners). I want to make sure that the medication is working. I don't go and see my doctor for a few weeks yet and I will ask him then, but wondered if perhaps anyone else could help me with the answer beforehand.

Thank you for your response John H, but how long does it take. I don't know how long other medications take to dissolve and enter into the bloodstream so that really didn't help. I am trying to figure out how long...as it is important to take this everyday and to not miss a dose at all!

ATRIPLA contains 3 active ingredients namely; efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

Efavirenz: attains peak plasma concentrations at approximately 3–5 hours after taking.

Emtricitabine: rapidly absorbed with peak plasma concentrations occurring at 1–2 hours post-dose.

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate: maximum serum concentrations are usually achieved in within an hour or 11/2 hour.
