I have 6 puppies not a clue who the father/fathers are. Abused rescue mother that was pregnant when I got her. At 4 weeks today one is twice the size as the others. Even has furrier hair. The faces all look the same. The mom looked part Havenese. She had 3 different types of fur. Never seen anything like it in my life. The mother passed away 2 nights ago in my arms. I am thinking about doing DNA testing on one of the puppies. Do puppies at 4 weeks all look the same? I'm clueless here.

I don't know what happened to her. Nor does the vet. The otopsy was uncertain. DIC, Milk fever. Who knows when she died in my arms I went to lift her up, and blood came pooring out her mouth. She never coughed up any blood only after she died did the blood poor out. Then night before she was at the vet on IV all night. I took her home with antibiotics. I don't think the bullet in her moved around. Yes I said bullet. She must have been shot when she was a puppy. The wound was healed. We found the bullet in the x-ray when we took one to see how many puppies were inside her. The tail was broken in more than one place. I had to have it removed after she gave birth to the puppies, because she kept attacking it. Down to the bone. It wasn't safe for the puppies.

Puppies can appear like their parents, or any grandparents. Yes,they can have different sires, but they can also just look like any dog in their close ancestry.

As weird as it sounds, each puppy can have a different dad. So she could have been with 6 males so yes, at 4 weeks of age, they can be very different. My friend took in a dog in a similar situation & she had 7 puppies. Some look like part jack russell, mini dobe & whippet. Don't have a clue who the dads were but they sure are a mixture & very different in size. As for DNA testing, unless it's to prove who the dad is, it's not worth the money. Spend the money on the pups to be sure they're healthy & keep them fed.
You did a great thing taking in the mom & I'm really sorry you lost her. You didn't say what happened but irregardless, it's still hard to lose them.

She probably got caught by two different males. It's quite common. This would explain the huge size difference, and different hair types.I'm sorry about the mother dog. What happened to her? Oh,and I wouldn't waste the money on DNA testing. It would be better used towards getting the puppies spayed and neutered.

Aww,it's a shame about the mother dog.I had a cat that I rescued years ago.She was so afraid of people, but I finally managed to tame her.Years later she developed cancer in her spleen, and when my vet x-rayed her,she found that Bella had been shot at some time in her life as well.No wonder she was afraid of people.Poor animals, cruel people.

No puppies at 4 weeks is when they are realy starting to get more individual.
They can be bred by more than one male so it's probably a different father.

its possible for them to have multiple sires, yes.

They could all come from the same dad too.. they are mutts, so what they will look like and size will just depend on what genes they recieved from the parents.
