I opened an existing word document and used it to write a new one. The problem is I saved the new one under the same file name. Is there any way to retrieve the old file?

In the directory the file is stored in, check for a file with the same name but the extension of .wbk (assuming Word XP/2003/2000). If you find it, open it with Word and hold your breath. It MIGHT be the previous version of the file.

Much good luck.

Retrieving the file is near impossible, however, if it was an existing document that you overwrote, where else did you send it? Did you email it to anyone? Copy it anywhere? Can you get a copy of it from another source?

Recovery software will not be effective for you as you didn't DELETE the file, rather you made changes and saved it.

Once you get a copy, if you use it frequently for the same purpose, perhaps you should consider saving it as a template....

It is possible to retrieve back accidentally overwritten word document. You can download document recovery software called asoftech data recovery. It can recover lost document even after new one saved under same name.
