Don't get me wrong, i love my dog, but i can't keep her anymore. Shes an AKC labrador and I got her 3 years ago, but i moved away to college a year ago. My parents were taking care of her when i was away but now that both my parents are starting new jobs, in which they both work bizarre hours, my dog is being neglected and my parents want me to get rid of her. Does anyone in the SF bay area want to adopt her? Is there any alternatives other than the SPCA or Humane society? I don't want her stuck in a kennel and maybe put to sleep if no one adopts her. What should i do because i don't want to give her up. I cant bring her with me either because of the place i'm living in. I'm torn. anyone have any suggestions? anything will help. I'll do anything to find her a good home.

You need to contact rescue groups if you want to find a no-kill solution for her.
Here's a lab rescue in your area: http://www.labrescue.org/
And non-breed specific rescues:
http://www.rocketdogrescue.org/
http://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/noFrames/index.shtml
http://www.smileydogrescue.org/blueweb/index.asp
Call them as soon as possible and be prepared to be patient. Rescue groups like that have nothing to depend on but donations and volunteers and they're swamped 100% of the time, but they do what they can.
Whatever you do, do NOT advertise her "Free to a good home." Large dogs can be sold for decent money to research labs, and labs make good bait dogs for fighting rings. Ask for an adoption fee, however small, to make sure that the person you give her to isn't trying to make a buck.
In the meantime, can your parents keep your dog until you can get her into a safe place? Can you find a relative or friend that can take her perhaps that won't neglect her until then? The most ideal thing would be if you could find a way to keep her yourself. I know you're in college and I remember what that was like, but a dog deserves to be treated like a family member. Lots of students live in apartments rather than dorms, and lots of apartments allow dogs these days.
You owe it to her to do what you would do for a family member. Best wishes.

All purebreds have breed rescue organizations you can locate on the Internet. Many people look for AKC registered animals through these agencies to save some money and those folks would be thrilled to pay the adoption fees associated in addition to giving your friend a wonderful home.

YES - take the advice here and contact the lab rescue FIRST before contacting anyone else if letting a friend/relative adopt her is out of the question. Lab rescues really love the breed - and especially AKC, you should have NO problem. So sorry you have to get rid of your dog - that really sucks.

You are one lucky gal. You happen to live in one of the few places in California (San Francisco); that actually has a NO KILL shelter! They even provide training prior to rehoming a dog. Check out the shelter in city of San Francisco, and good luck.

Did you ask the breeder you bought her from ?? Reputible breeders will usually take back dogs they bred, just to make sure that they go to good homes and don't end up in shelters or dead..
Check relatives, see if one of them would be interested.. Check Lab Rescue in your area.

Give her to a friend or relative. Also try putting an add in the newspaper (for responsible owners only)
