HOLD IT! Do not go to Pattaya by car - go to Ekemai bus station (the eastern bus station) on Sukhumvit and take the bus for about 90 baht. (Take the BTS to the Ekamai stop) It drops you off and you take a pickup into town for another 20 baht or so.

The trip takes about 2 hours and the best time is early morning. Right now they are tearing up Sukhumvit for the BTS extension so rush hour is a whole lot slower.

Enjoy Pattaya!

It's 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Also it will cost 1500-1700 baht by Taxi.

IMPORTANT: There are no taxis in Pattaya. You will see them on the street there but none are living there they have to leave every night to return to BKK. That means that many nights they return without a fare. If you stop one to return they will take you back for gas money and a small fee. That will work out to 400-500 Baht a huge savings.

You can take the bus too but it is extremely slow around rush hour and make sure you get to the station early as the good buses sell out. I'd say you'd be okay if you get there before 10 am.

SN: I think at least one overnight is the minimum. Since at least 4 hours of your day will be spent in travel. Pattaya has a decent beach but a lot of what you'd want to see and do is at night. Pattaya isn't really my favorite in Thailand but it is the beach and it is close to Bangkok. My wife and I prefer Koh Samui, Krabi or Phuket (Phuket only in low season).

They say pattaya is 2 hours drive. But usually in a taxi it takes around 1 1/2 hours. There are two tolls on the way but most taxis cover this toll with the fare. Which u should be able to find for less than 1500 baht. I would recomend this way more than the bus. But its a short trip and well worth the ride

Pattaya is actually about 140 km southeast of Bangkok, and the drive is normally about two hours or so, but right now there is a lot of road construction on the main motorway into Pattaya, so figure at least two and a half hours or so to get there.

I am interested to go Pattaya too.... if I did not stay there, 1 day is it enough if I travel from Bangkok early in the morning? Any interesting places to recommend? Shall we join the travel agent or can free and easy?
