Marine boot camp is simply basic military training. It isn't comparable to a Special Operations unit's indoc process. Marines are trained to be a conventional force, not Special Operations. Regardless of what some new and highly pumped Marines may tell you, they aren't a huge force of Special Operators, they are a conventional force. Within the Marine Corps there is the MSOB (Marine Special Operations Battalion) ... that is where you find your Special Operations Marines, they are small in number. This is why you can't compare something as simple as basic military training to an indoc process for the Army Rangers or Navy SEALs, etc. It's comparing apples to pizza. As for what is the hardest thing to do, that depends on the person. For some, Air Force basic training will be the hardest thing they've ever done. Everyone has their own limits and own maximum output ... something that is incredibly easy for me may be the hardest thing you've ever done. We're all different as individuals. If Special Operations interests you, research the different units out there .. see what appeals to you. I will give you some advice; don't waste your time trying to prove people wrong. Do what you want to do and do it for the right reasons because at the end of the day, it's your life and the only thing that matters is if YOU are happy. It takes a much stronger person to ignore those that say negative things that it does for someone to bend to it. Good luck

The Army has always been the primary fighting force for the US. In Vietnam and Iraq Army deaths and wounded far exceed the Marines.
I think the Marines are a great unit, but they are no better than anyone else and they bleed red as well!
Found it interesting that the Army had to rescue a SEAL team in Afghanistan!
The 101st was one of the first dropped behind enemy lines before Normandy. The 101st is my old unit, well one of them, while I was in Vietnam. Then I was in the 101st 1st Brigade (detached). We were not air assault! The rest was at Campbell and was Airborne. They went to Nam after I came home as did the 82nd!
I don't think the Marines are any better, they just have a different mission! Of course the Marines won't agree, but we protected their behind in Vietnam on more than 1 occasion!

I have no problem with a little rivalry. It's like brothers. We can fight and insult each other all we want, but God help the outsider who tries to jump in!! One of my old units was 2ND ANGLICO, and I have worked with all branches of the military. At the end of the day, we all signed the same dotted line. It is the young, uninformed ones who take the joke too far. I remember being at a school on an Army post. Out in town, some fellow Marines and I had a go with some Army types. Then some long haired nasty types decided to join in. Well, after we ALL finished with them, we ALL went back in the bar and proceeded to get drunk in fine military fashion TOGETHER. We all bleed the same color red, and ANYBODY who wears a uniform with pride and honor has my respect.

Hon, I hear ya, but the Marines do kick butt! Army also kick butts, but we all do it in some different ways, so both are just as good at what they do and I will not disparage either of them. I certainly cannot disparage the Army, nor the Marines. I believe it was a Marine unit the rescued me and my escort after an ambush in Vietnam near Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), so I have the greatest respect for them. OORAH!
Wld, understand that some very friendly rivalry exists between the branches and it only serves to make us stronger and more of a team!

Finally someone said it! Basic is flippin basic and it's what you do after that counts.
That is what can be wrong w. Answers...... the young boys have this impression that being a Marine will make them better warriors. They don't get the idea that you pick your service based upon many things and what opportunities you have later.
I have worked side by side over the years with many Marines and appreciate them much. But I realize that the media has much to do with perception and kids not realizing the scope of the whole thing.

Screaming Eagle eh...
Remember it takes and Army to win a war there is no other way to do it.
I have respect for you but I just have to say its all about us Paratroopers man…Airborne :)
Although its like Stated Above it think the competition between us makes us both Army and Marines better at what we do we need someone to race with or we would get soft.
Plus they are really good at clearing Area...like rabid dogs....just not so good at holding them but then again that’s that the Marine Corps. Purpose

I get tired of hearing people comparing them all to each other. They ALL have their purpose and are damn good at their jobs!
Military folks all joke around with one another about their service being the "best". Civilians who have never served and say my Father or Friend was a 'this or that" should just shut up. That's like saying you're cool cause your friend is... Guess what... You're Not!

i'm in the Army ; live on a Marine base, have Marine neighbors. play poker with Marines, fish, softball, football, and train with them. They are just like us. we all wake up early, work late, and drink until the wee hours. they have stronger qualities on some things and we have stronger qualities on some things. such everybody like to joke around and have a good time about whose is better. blah blah blah. it's all in good fun

Will if they've never been in the military then tell them they don't know ****, cuase I'm not in the military, and most of what you wrote i have no idea what it means. all those abrieviation, i have no idea what they are. But i get your point anyways, your platoon grows stronger despite however strong or week your bootcamp was so why should it matter if you went to army boot camp or marine.

I'm more tired of one branch belittling another branch. All serve our country and protect our freedom. Everyone is fighting for the same thing - the United States and its freedom.
