Like many other girls out there, I have been trying my luck in modelling and so far, i have had several casting calls which some of them i did attend but they selected someone better. Anyway, recently, I was contacted by this photographer who saw my photos online, and he was interested in making me one of his personal models. He said I would have to pay nothing and he will shoot my portfolio and promote me to clients.

However, he did mention that he may need to see me in a bikini to know my weaknesses and flaws on my body.He promised me that no photos will be taken and it will just take a couple of minutes. The main reason, he says, is so that he knows my size well so that it's easier for him to introduce me to clients. He also says that a model should work closely for a photographer.

If i'm offered any jobs, he says that he will take 40% of whatever I earn.

Should I accept this offer?

Like everyone else, I found this to be a little bit suspicious. Why anyone wants to see weaknesses and flaws in your body if most of the time it's being covered by your clothes anyway unless the photographers are thinking about something else different?

He could promised you that no photo will be taken, but once you're in a bikini then he could persuade you so he could take a photo, or something like that.

So, just say no on this one. If you're lucky, he might agree that he will take your picture anyway without you in a bikini or something worse. If he didn't agree, well there's a lot of photographer out there that are willing to work with you.

No. This sounds extremely suspicious. Even if he says he won't take pictures, chances are there's going to be a hidden camera in the room. That is absolute BS, about "knowing your size." You can do that perfectly well fully clothed.

Look for sites that give you listings of legitimate photographers (I'm sure they're out there). See if you can get into contact with people already modeling and ask who they went with. Above all, meet with a photographer first before you commit to anything. Ask if he can refer you to other people he's helped before. See if he has some kind of arts degree, and make sure an independent company or agency will vouch for him.

A photographer is not an agent. He shouldn't be taking any percentage.

If you want to build a portfolio, go to someone else. If you want to model, get an agent or go with an agency and have them setup a portfolio shoot with someone they know that is reputable nad reliable.

Stay as far away from this "photographer" as possible. Seems shady to me.

NO, NO, NO! dump the dude! To start off 40% is to much. What kind of references does he have? Have you seen his work? If you have any flaws, like scars, tattoos, etc. Have you listed them on your resume? There's no need to see you in a bikini if he's not going to photograph you. There's no need to photograph you in a bikini if that's not the kind of modeling you want to do. Feel free to ask me more questions on here. You can also send them to my myspace or my email.

NO.

He may even has a real business promoting models. But firstly he is a perv.

If he wants to "get to know" you, he would send you to a photographer. Or if he is a photographer, then you only need to model in the kind of photographs you are interested in. If you are NOT interested in bikini type modeling, then you do NOT need to do bikini type test shots.

Good Luck.

Perhaps you should give this one a miss all together.
If for whatever reason you decide to model with him (even with clothes on) i think you should take a trust-worthy male friend with you to keep yourself out of any potential trouble.
Keep him close, and re-negotiate on the 40%.

Of course you should accept it. Then email me because I have a newly painted bridge for sale. Its a really nice 6 lane one.

I'm almost tempted to tell you to deliver a swift kick to where it will get his full attention.

Get away from him and tell him to forget your number. If he calls you, tell him you'll report him for harassment if he calls again.
