Since you don't go to church, you can't get married with a priest. Priests are catholic and you can only get married in a catholic church with a priest if both the bride and groom are catholic. As for other churches, why would you want to get married in a church with a minister or pastor if you aren't religious? There are many, many other places you can get married (hotels, stately homes, parks, etc) instead. Also, the ceremony would be of a religious nature if you get married with a minister and if you aren't religious, I imagine you wouldn't want that.

You can get an officiant or a celebrant to marry you otherwise. Also, there justices of the peace or judges who can marry you.

Well, there is a lot more to finding a church than the cost. As a church employee, I can tell you that most ministers will not marry you without some type of marriage counseling. Also, you have to figure out what type of ceremony and reception you want. Some churches don't allow dancing at receptions, and others may not allow alcohol.

As far as costs go, there are certain fees involved. Usually, the price you would pay for using a church building would include the pastor. The only time that would be different is if you only use the building, but use a pastor from a different church. The price might be different for members and non-members of that church. You also have to consider costs for sound equipment, cameras and other media support.

Also, there is the date of the wedding. Once you find the church and pastor, and have done everything else, you will need to make sure that the date is available.

Best of luck to you dear. Congratulations.

It's really really hard to do. Most churches require that you be in good standing with another church for a year. Most also require you to be a member of that church or transfer membership from another church that you are in good standing with. Not to mention the required pre-marital counseling. We found a church that marries non members and have become members there just because we like the church, the fee for us using the church is 150 dollars. Do you have a family member from either side that is in good standing with a church? Ask around, ours is a modern baptist. Good luck!!

And, if your not holy and you don't go to church then why do you want to be married in one? To save money?? The point of being married in a church is to be married in the eyes of God. If you just want somewhere to get married, call event centers. It ends up costing the same either way.

How about looking for a church to worship together in for a lifetime and not just for a wedding? Starting a marriage is a serious thing, you are taking a vow before God, he invented marriage, why not include him and seek his guidance and blessings? No church is perfect, but having a spiritual influence in your marriage will pay off positively. So, you and your beloved should start visiting churches, ask God to guide you to the best one for your family and have your wedding at your new church home - along with your baby's christening, family funerals, etc., etc.

look around at churches within about 15-20 minutes drive of your reception hall. find one with a style you like, and check out their regulations as far as if you have to use their priest, if you can hire an outside priest, and any other rules they may have, as well as their fees.

and don't overlook non-religious locations, like local parks or whatever reception site you plan to use. I got married at a lake and used the deck there for my reception and it was great to not have to drive in between.

ministers usually get tiped about $50-100.

marriage licenses cost about $50, but varies from state to state. call the office of the registrar (the number will be in you phone book, or your town hall can transfer you to them) for specifics about cost and waiting period, as well as what ID to take with you to get it.
