Just went there. It was cheaper to do the air and hotel together for us. A lot depends on what hotel you want to stay at. Rates are cheaper Sun-Thur. We knew which hotel we wanted so we only had so many choices. We did all sorts of checking on our own and then called a travel agent. The travel agent actually got the best rate for us. I personally like an upscale hotel on the strip but there are some really cheap deals if you dont mind staying at an older hotel off the strip.

Hotels in Vegas want people to come and spend their money and stay at their hotel, so they always have great deals if you book the flight and hotel together. The hotel subsidize the airlines to bring people in, so this is the way to go. Also check your paper in the travel section and the classifieds. You should be able to fine some deals. If not check with a travel agent. It won't cost you a thing for them to check. They will give you a quote for free.

When you get in Vegas the shuttle buses will take to the hotels on the strip for about $5.00 and off the strip for $7.00.

It depends upon where you are leaving from and also if you mind where you stay. You can get some great packages for air / room together if you don't care if you stay at say Paris versus the Venetian. If you really want to stay in a specific place I have found it is easier and cheaper to book them individually, since airfare to Vegas is cheap. Also rooms on Sunday - Thursday night are much cheaper.
