Oh, give me a break. A few trolls come up in here and write like they are in kindergarten, and all of a sudden Christians can't spell.

"why do christians seem to spell so badly considering how much they claim to reed (sic) a bible?"
Christians do fine. At least this one does pretty good. Why are you blaming Christians when the Muslims can't seem to place definite articles and conjunctions in their sentences?

"i wonder what the correlation is between atheism and IQ"
They are just as bad, even worse sometimes. Like when they fail to capitalize pronouns at the beginning of sentences and proper punctuation at the end of sentences.

The English language is not phonetic.

See for yourself: "REED" is spelled "Read."

I am a sixteen year old Christian with an average Intelligence Quality of 131. The average person my age who is an Atheist is an 'Atheist' because they want to become popular. Some of these Atheists grow up and supposedly change their reasons for being so (There seem to be a lot of these people on YA). How is that smart? It's like telling a lie and later believing it.

I don't use Spell Check, by the way. YOU should, though.

I can't spell well at all I will freely admit. However, you will find that spelling has a relatively low correlation to IQ score while vocabulary is around 90%. Just thought you would like to know something about IQ testing.

--- just so no one else makes themselves look silly, (sic) means:

intentionally so written -- used after a printed word or passage to indicate that it is intended exactly as printed or to indicate that it exactly reproduces an original

in other words people reed is done that way purposefully

Trust me; as an editor, sometimes I think I'll go bald from pulling at my hair while reading some posts here.

It's not just the Christians though, but many people, from various viewpoints. I think it is often laziness. I might advise them to use firefox instead of IE, as it comes with spell-checking built-in, but I don't think it would help. Spell check doesn't really help when people don't know the difference between "there", "their" and "they're"; "your" and "you're" and the like.

Then again, there is horrible spelling and English even in local newspapers. If people who write for a living are so terribly deficient at it, why should we expect better from the general public?

Edit:

I love the post by h2opologirl. Laughing at what she doesn't understand. I'm not sure what point she proves, but she definitely proves at least one.

It's our school system, haven't you noticed how unintelligent the young are these days. Of course, we still have our special brainy students. Sometimes also, people good at math, may not be that great wih spelling. That's why we have spell check.

My sister has a PhD in Astronomy, but her spelling is terrible. She reads a lot, but for some reason reading how a word is spelled and spelling it later aren't connected.

Darwin was a pertty smart guy, he was a Christian.

Funny you should mention this...I am a BAD speller and a Christian, and don't know how many times I've read the Bible but did manage to earn a degree in Biology =)

Reading the Bible and spelling have no connection. Unless you want to spell -- THY or THE or JUST.

I guess reading the koran and crashing 4 fully loaded jet planes have a connection.
