My daughter is 3 1/2 years old...and for over a month now she's had no problem's peeing on the potty. She'll announce that she has to go, and run in there and do everything herself....however, and this is where we hit the snag....she refuses to poop on the potty. I'll normally have to force her on the potty or she'll hold it and hold it until night time, when I put on her pull-ups...and she'll go in them. I keep her in regular undies during the day, and at night she'll wear the pull-ups...I guess I have a few questions....how can i get her to poop on the potty? And, should I punish her if she knowingly holds it, and goes in her pull-ups? What type of punishment? Just looking for some advice...

I need advice too. My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and still potty training too. We've gotten her to go poo-poo a few times in the potty chair but pee-pee is very difficult for her. I don't think punishment is an answer because then she'll be afraid to go pee or poo and hold it in causing physical problems like a UTI or constipation. Just reward her with praise for every step she does take. I'll be checking back to read other's advice. Good luck!

I have four kids the yungest 3 and she is trained the thing for me was to wait till she was ready . ANd no punishing them will make things worse for all involved try rewards like stickers or things she /he enjoys positive reinforcement works best .Try putting her on the potty for a few minutes before bed

definetely no punishment.....it's not the right way....and try to do away the pulls ups (very comfortable for parents) even in the night .... with my daughter i used diapers just the strictly necessary, when she was 18 months she could go to toilet alone and now she's 3 years old and completely indipendent of diapers, also in the night , she wouldnt wanna wear them since she was 20 months....but every kid is different and parents should respect their times....but sooner u get 'em away the better will be...try to enphatise when she do it right , and just try to be indifferent when she do it on purpose in the nuppy....good luck...

the 3 1/2 year old..don't put pull ups on her, they are a glorified diaper, which gives her permission to use them as such..you may have a wet or worse bed for a few nights, and then again you may not..both my boys stayed dry when I didn't put diapers on them @ night..they were 2 1/2.

for the 2 1/2 year old..put silky fancy panties on her, when they get wet they feel cold and clammy..she can change them herself, and that gets old fast..easier to use the potty.

for both rewards of M&Ms or stickers sometimes work wonders..good luck to both of you..
