I had lasik performed 12 months ago, my only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner.
The procedure itself is almost painless (I say almost because there will be some soreness afterwards). You are awake during the procedure however they numb your eyes, you will feel pressure and discomfort but that all.
In my opinion the worst part is keeping up with the eye drops 20-25 drops per day per eye. (different drops too) But in the end my vision went from 20/600 to 20/15 (20/20 is considered ideal).
I paid $2500 USD for the Custom Lasik, I could have gotten it done cheaper however why would you cheap out on something like this? I met with 4 different doctors before I decide on one.
Since then 2 of my good friends and my wife have the procedure performed by the same doctor.
FYI
Spend the extra $200 on the custom lasik, this will prevent the "halo's" that you commonly hear about.

Hi there,
I had Lasik Intralase plus Wavefront on Friday morning just gone. Had my check up on Saturday morning and could see better than 20/20 already. It is the best thing i've ever done and the best money i've ever spent. Would highly recommend it.
I was so nervous before the procedure but the team were amazing and really calmed me down. This lovely man held my hand throughout the whole procedure and explained exactly what was happening.
The procedure itself does not hurt in the slightest. It is slighly uncomfortable when they are creating the corneal flap but its just like pressure like someone pushing on your eye. Not sore at all. Once that is done its all plain sailing. The moment i sat up from the surgery chair I could see better already. You've to go home and keep your eyes closed for 4-5 hours. I got home at 1pm, went to bed and slept til 5pm. Got up and could see almost perfectly. Went back to bed again. Got up at 6.30pm and was watching TV for the first time in my life without contacts/glasses.
Honestly, don't be afraid or nervous there is absolutely nothing to worry about. You will love the results. Go for it..

Fortunately, I don't need it yet. I manage a LASIK office and see the results daily and they are great. If I do need it I will be getting it. Four of my friends have had surgery (3 LASIK & 1 PRK) and are all very happy. My wife is scheduled to have it in January when flex spending kicks in.

I was about 20/250 before Lasik surgery last year. The procedure was painless, probably due to the Valium they gave me. The ride home (as a passenger, of course) was fairly uncomfortable, mainly due to light sensitivity. The doctor gave me dark goggles, but the light was still too bright. I was in some pain once I got home (maybe 3 hours post procedure), but I had some left over Vicodin, and took two doses of that. The Vicodin took the edge off. Slept fine that night. Woke up the next morning, and I COULD SEE FINE! Hallelujah! I was jazzed up about that. I drove myself to my one day check up (an 2 hour round trip) with no problems. For that check up, I was seeing at 20/25, less than 24 hours after the surgery. I went to work that afternoon (doing ultrasound which really requires you to use your eyes). For my one week check up, I was seeing between 20/20 and 20/15. Other than the touch of pain I had post procedure, before I went to bed for the night, I had no other problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat! No more glasses, no more contacts, no more cleaning solutions and saline!
My advice would be to talk to everyone....talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers....you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident! Good luck to you!
Just one other thing....I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you!

I had it done a few years ago and everything turned out great but my only caution to you is make sure that you do the background checks on the doctor you're thinking of going to. Which state do you live in, if you don't mind me asking? B/c you can look up a physician's license online and see if they have had any infractions against them w/in a certain number of years. Make sure to not only research the procedure but also the doctor. Good luck to you. I'm happy I had it done. I no longer have to wear glasses or contacts! http://www.mbc.ca.gov/Lookup.htm

Don't do it if you're an older person because it means you'll have to get reading glasses. If you're willing to put up with them, then by all means go for it. I've resisted getting this procedure done because in my case, it means I will swap one problem for another. Unlike many people my age, I have not lost my ability to see objects close up clearly. I can still see better that way without glasses or contacts. I don't really want to lose that ability.

I had it done in 2002 and was about 20/20 and still about 20/20 afterwards. It used to be that I couldn't see the details of someone's face nearby without glasses. Now I can drive without glasses. I just need reading glasses to read close up.

I know 3 people who have had it done. One had it about 3 years ago and the others about 2 years ago. They all have had great success with no problems. Just remember that is not permanent and chances are you will need to have it again in the future.
