Hell yeah.
Sixth grade "grad-uAte" like Jethro Bodine? You're on!
A GED is fine with most depts but what you really want to have to get on the Fire or Police is Military Experience!
That puts you to the head of the line and most states even give some type of Veteran's Preference.
If I were a Police Cheif I'd hire a Veteran before someone with a college degree.

yes you can, but to back that up you usually need 30 or 60 college credits, depending on where you apply. here in nj the majority of PDs require 60 credits.. equal to 4 years, 30 credits equal to 2 years.

Yes, there are still a lot of departments that only require a H.S, education. More and more are requiring at least 60 semester hours of college but a GED is still good for a bunch. Check out officer.com. They list a lot of openings and the requirements. Most departments that require college wave it for 4 years of military service.

You'll be right at home. A GED and a big case of inferiority complex just waiting to exert your authority against some law abiding citizens.
