It's Private First Class. A PVT is an E-1. A PFC is an E-2.

a Private is an E-1, entry level bottom-of-the-barrel.
a Private First Class(or PFC for short) is an E-2.

not much of a difference as they're both very new to the Corps. only difference is that a PFC gets a single striped chevron to put on their uniforms... there is no chevron for a private.

One pay grade which would be made up in 3 months of energetic duty provider. Or earlier military association like JROTC, Sea Cadets etc etc. different then which you're nonetheless the backside of the barrel...
