Well generally God won't speak to people just like that. Mostly those who claim that God spoke to them are likely to have psychic problems. God speak to Prophets and Prophets conveys their message to us. Now, don't expect that God will convey His message to you. Try to read the holy scripture of different religion and see, which scripture seem to be original, in which you feel that God is directly speaking to you through the scripture.

When I first started walking the road towards the Kingdom...I too used to wonder why God didn't reveal Himself. And then I realized, what I was looking for was my own personal burning bush experience.
And maybe I'll never have one...but then I started to realize, God shows me His power in every day that I see His creation. He is unmatched as the artist, unequalled as the engineer.
My car radio might not make sounds, unless I turn it on. (meaning I have to open my heart first). And even then, I might not hear anything. That's when I have to work the dial, tune in. I guess what I'm saying, is God isn't one to shout...He is the whisper in the storm.
And so much of my journey is learning how to listen, to hear His voice speaking to my heart, in a language that has no words.

Yes, We have to be in His Word for it become apart of us. And our sins are what seperates us from Him.
Oh we can be decieved by our own minds the thoughts we entertain, others that don't understand or know Him,and the main one that wants us to never get to the point of letting our lives be controlled by God-we know who that is.....the main deciever who comes to steal, kill and destroy. It starts with the Word that has been placed in our hearts and mind. Oh satan is good at that!
Give your all to God trust me He has all ready done the most of the work Now just accept Him. He loves you no matter what you've done. I have done plenty of things that are no longer between me and Him.
He is the Best Daddy I know.
I pray with the fellow believers here that you will know the Truth and He will set you Free. There is nothing like it! The world maybe falling down around me but I have peace and joy and it passes all understanding.
You Are being prayed for.

Searching for God takes awhile for some us. I would suggest that you read EVERYTHING on the subject; not just the bible. Pray as well as listen (meditation). Talk to others - especially people who you respect or who seem to have some wisdom.
Life experiences help. I hear there are no atheists in foxholes (I suspect that is true). The birth of my daughter was proof enough for me.
I am also interested in the concept of "Vision Quest" or spending time in the wilderness to pray and meditate. I believe it is easier to find God if there is less distraction and if you are in a setting that reflects his infinite power and creativity (i.e. the beauty of nature).
Good luck.

God shows Himself in mysterious ways. The next song you hear, the next time you open a book and see a certain word or sentence, the next time you just happen to notice the wind in the trees, anything.
God is always with you, always around you, always inside of you.
Seven steps to become the friend to God:
Love God
Embrace God
Help God
Use God
Know God
Trust God
Thank God

I actually see this question quite a bit.
This is what you must do: Trust Him. That's Christianity, trusting God for what He said.
Jesus started Christianity. He didn't call it that, but that's what we call it.
What did Jesus say?
He said:
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(John 3)
So I trust Him for it. And I have been a Christian for over 20 years.
The Bible also says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. So I would direct you to listening to, and studying God's word.
Here is a site of a pretty good pastor/teacher:

I hope you make it, it's a good ride!

The question I would ask you is what are you looking for exactly? If you are expecting the heavens to part and a thundering voice to boom down...you may be waiting for a long while...probably forever. But I do think you are right, God speaks to us in the silence of our being, we must find God in that silence. I think, sometimes, we get so caught up in trying to get God to do things our way, that we don't stop and listen to Him patiently waiting for us to hear what He is saying to us.
"The way to prayer
Leads through acts of wonder
and radical amazement.
The illusion of total intelligibility,
the indifference to total mystery that is everywhere,
the foolishness of ultimate self-reliance
are serious obstacles along the way.
It is in moments of our being faced with
the mystery of knowing and not knowing
of love and inability of love,
that we pray,
that we address ourselves to Him
who is beyond the mystery." - Abraham Joshua Heschel
"...the arguments (for God's existence) though convincing are not resistless. They can be evaded, though not escaped. They have no power to persuade a man against his will, nay, there is required a certain pia credulitas, which means, not pious credulity, but a loyal readiness to believe, without which they do not avail. Just as no man saves his soul without his own consent, so no man accepts the existence of God if he set his face against it." - Richard Clarke

Many others, including myself, have told you that you must first be willing to turn from sin before God will speak to you, dear one.
If you insist in remaining within a sinful lifestyle, God will keep His back to you.
I've been praying for you and will continue to do so and hope you visited the website I offered. I know it will be a tremendous blessing to you!
God bless you!

Talk to God. Tell Him if He is real to show himself to you. If you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you. He left a book for you to read, it's called the Bible. Tell Jesus that you would like Him to come into your life. You will never regret it.! If God seems cruel to you, then you don't know Him, He is loving and merciful, slow to anger and quick to forgive.

I can understand your feeling somewhat. I struggle with issues of wondering why things happen as they do sometimes. But I don't believe God is cruel with us. I believe its because we have made a cruel world on our own. When God first made this world the Bible tells us he regularly spoke with man. But when we turned away from him and wanted to do our own thing (what happened in Eden) we started down a road of losing touch with God. And we haven't changed much since then. We still want things our way and refuse to see Gods viewpoint. So we lose touch with truth and with love by losing touch with God. So we are left with a cruel world where everyone wants to satisfy self. Look out for number one we call it.
I think the only source of truth and love is God. I believe thats why Jesus had to come to try to repair the lines of communication. So you need to get close to God by asking Him to forgive you (as we all do) for our selfishness, to help us to understand the Bible and to read it,(look for some literature that can help you understand more about the Bible) and to ask Him to come into our hearts to change our viewpoint from seeing ourselves and what we want , to consider what God wants and to try to help others. You need to be serious about this and work on this daily. Eventually you will see God, yourself, and others differently. If God is silent usually it is because we lack the seriousness to really, really want to connect with Him. Too often we all say we want to know God and hear what He has to say, but we don't want to seek after that with a real effort . We want it to happen magically, like it is Gods' responsibility to make it work. I think God waits to see if we are really wanting what we say we want. I hope that helps you some.
