I always hear that sex offenders can not be rehabed. Seems to me that this is true and when they get out of jail/prison, they re-offend. Maybe those are just the cases we hear about. So, for you law enforcements fellas out there, can they be treated and rehabbed or once a rapist/molestor always one? Just curious, I'm not a sex offender, I know how people on here like to get all holier than thou.

The can not be in anyway rehabilitated and yes, they will either re-offend or spend their lives fighting themselves not to.

There is no such thing as a 'mistake' when it comes to rapist or child molesters. They are evil people.

Now, at the same time... I do have a soft spot for the 17 year old that has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend and her parents throw a fit and want him canned.

That, to me is NOT a sex crime and should not get this boy labeled as a sex offender.

The ones that made an error in judgement can be rehabbed; the ones that are offenders by choice cannot.

The ones that are 18 and boink a 16 year old girl and end up convicted, well, they are technially offenders but don't have a preference or a desire for children, it's just a matter of bad judgement and angry parents. But the ones who are sexual predators because they prefer kids can't be rehabilitated. The ones who offend because a child is near but an adult partner isn't can't be rehabilitated.

Men who rape or offend against adults can sometimes be rehabbed. Against children, it is a different story.

Well I'm not in law enforcement and I'm definitely not one of those 'holier than thou's', but I would like to respond to your question. I have a brother-in-law who was convicted and spent many years in prison for raping someone. He was supposedly 'rehabilitated' and 'a different man' when he got out. After he was released, he met and married my sister. They have now been married for 10 years and have children. During this time, he has attempted to force himself on at least six other women that I know of, myself included. My sister has been told about these incidents and makes excuses for him or accusations towards those who have tried to tell her about it, insinuating that they gave him reason to act inappropriately or that they 'misunderstood him'. She can't even find anyone willing to babysit for her because of his actions. I no longer allow him to visit my home and will not even go to visit my sister because I will not be around him, and will not let my children go there for the same reason. There may be some offenders who have truly been rehabilitated, but I don't know of any. I believe a person has to have a true change of all aspects of their life in order to be successfully rehabilitated.

That's like saying a convicted murderer will always murder again...and the murderers don't have to register and we don't know how many of the murderers are our neighbors. The same is true for robbers and arsonists, etc.

I'm not saying all people can be rehabilitated, but why just concern ourselves with sex offenders?

It depends on the type of sex offender. The list is long and always being added to.
Some can be changed in that they learn to and follow methods to control their urges. No they cannot be cured, just as you cannot be cured of your habit of eating. You learn to control your eating and the successful ones learn to control their urges.
The success rate is very very small but I have seen some that have lasted for years as "cured".

There are only two successful rehabs for sex offenders, frontal lobotomy and lethal injection.
