I have the same problem as you. Once, I accidentally died my hair gold....just at the top! It made me look like I have a wig, since my layers were black.
So I had to dye it back to black again. My hair became very hard.
So, if you would like to dye your hair, but prevent dryness, use Pantene's color shampoo/conditioner. Don't trust Clairol's Hydraince dye because it's just a normal dye with a pretty name. :S
But when you're not dying your hair but would like to straighten it, use Herbal Essences' Hello Hydration. It adds back all the hydrience even when I straighten it.
Also, Garnier's anti-frizz shampoo (label orange) works, too. Dry hair causes frizz so any shampoo with "anti-frizz" helps.

I'm not sure what's in them but the conditioners that come with your dying packages are the best types to use! As for DIY's.. MAYO! Weird and smelly, I know.. but try it. Mix it with a dab of conditioner.. leave it in for an hour or so.. and voila. I'd suggest straightening your hair only once a month.
You may also want to switch shampoos.. for some shampoos tend to dry out hair. I'd also recommend not shampooing often. Skip on it sometimes.. shampoo once or twice a week - but always condition. The natural oils will protect your hair.

There are special shampoo's and conditioners that are for dry hair. Go to your local super market and take a look at all the products. If you cant decide go to the hair dressers and they have a great range of products for all types of hairs.
You can also buy leave in treatments after you have a shower that softens your hair and makes it not as dry. I have had the same problem because i am out in the sun all the time it makes my hair dry.
Good Luck!

Dont shampoo everyday! When you are in the shower just wet your hair and run conditioner through out your hair and rinse and be done! I do it and it works great, I used to have a lot of split end too

If u have about 10 to 20 dollars then buy a bottle of silk therapy, If it dosnet work you email me and I will buy it from you, thats not a joke. I dye my hair about every three months and it is very damaged by it , also if u blow dry the heat will cause this too. And lastly use a special brush, if u shop for one you will see what I mean. U have to avoid tangle and stretching the hairs.

UG..I had the same problem and my hairdresser told me what to do. Buy good conditioner, you can go cheap on the shampoo. Then when you condition your hair leave it in for half an hour before rinsing. It works WONDERS.

To prevent split-end of hair, don't expose to too much heat from sun and too much use of electric hair-dryer. Trim hair to take out all split ends and stick to one good quality hair shampoo/conditioner suitable to your hair. When you stay inside home apply fresh coconut oil or aloe-vera to your hair and leave it whole day. Wash your hair thoroughly and let it dry naturally before your night sleep.

Hask Placenta Henna 'n' Placenta Conditioning Treatment
I work at Walgreen's and I get asked this question a lot. I've had numerous customers tell me how much they liked this product for their dry hair. It adds so much moisture and makes their hair feel soft and new. I've never used it personally but I guess it's worth a shot if you've got no other ideas. It'll cost you about $2.00 plus tax.

I have the same problem so I try about three days out of the week apply olive oil-I sleep with it left in my hair in a shower cap so the next day I can wash it out---it won't feel so pleasant but will hopefully help---if that doesn't work try mayonnaise I know that sounds disgusting but it truly helps restore conditioning...hope I helped;)
