s/pdif is used mostly for surround sound (6 speakers).
So, if you just want to use 2 speakers, there is no need to use s/pdif, use analog stereo out.

If you insist on surround, then check Logitech, they have multiple mini surround systems.

Digital speaker systems are expensive. Logitech z906 is $300. Soundbars have digital inputs as well. The PC spdif output is actually designed to allow a PC to work with a home theater receiver.
