There IS such thing as drinking too much water.
If you drink too much water (in a short period of time), then you have a pretty big chance of getting a condition known as 'water intoxication.' When too much water enters the body's cells, the tissues swell with the excess fluid. Your cells maintain a specific concentration gradient, so excess water outside the cells (the serum) draws sodium from within the cells out into the serum in an attempt to re-establish the necessary concentration.
It's not how MUCH water you drink, it's how FAST you drink it!!!

People say that six to eight cups a day is good for you. Some things, like exercise or very hot weather can increase the amount you need. If you are drinking every hour then it sounds like you are drinking more than that. Forcing yourself to drink a lot of water can be very bad for you - it messes with the ratio of salt and other chemicals (electrolytes) in your body and it can ultimately kill you - but you would have to drink a LOT of water and really force it down. If you find that you are thirsty all the time, it can be a sign of certain illnesses, like diabetes. If you are drinking/peeing more than normal (eg getting up in the middle of the night to have a drink or use the toilet) then it might be worth getting checked out by your doctor.

Like you should with most health concerns, talk to your doctor.
Most people don't drink enough water. In order for water to hurt you, (drowns your cells like another answerer said) you'd have to drink it much faster than you can pee it out. There was a girl I heard about who died by drinking over three gallons of water in an hour (it was a radio contest).
I'm not sure what would cause the bloating and respiratory difficulty, but I think it's something to bring up next time you visit the doctor, or something to at least call your doctor's office about.

the recommended 8 glasses a water is for the average sedentary individual not for the athlete or those that exercise on a daily basis.
the water intake should be based on the daily level of exercise, amount of lean muscle mass, time of year, relative humidity, ambient room temperature, etc. there are many factors that should ultimately determine how much water a person needs and everyone surely does not require the same amount.
both common sense and science tells us that a 200 lb construction worker that partakes in high intensity exercise daily and lives in Dallas needs and requires substantially more water than a 90 lb secretary that does not exercise and lives in East Millinocket (Maine).

It will not hurt you physically to drink lots of water. The only side affect is your time spent in the bathroom. Your stomache is just full of water, that is why you feel bloated. Also try to avoid vigorous exercise if you have just drank tons of water, as you are likely to throw the water back up.

The recommended amount is 8 glasses a day. If you drink more and don't eat enough food that has salt in it you will end up having problems with your blood pressure, it will become low and that is not healthy for you.

8 cups should be enough. Don't drink too much or you could drown your cells.... but I think you'd have to drink like 100 cups to do that. Maybe it's the water you're drinking... something in it could be harming you. Drink clean, pure water.

It sounds that you have a problem with your heart, and possibly be suffering from pulmonary edema.
The heart not only deals with your blood but your other fluids as well. And it sounds that your lungs are filling up with fluid that your heart cannot deal with. Are your feet swollen?
Is it easy to make an indentation on your lower shins and the indentation does not go away? See a Doctor!!
