I did it for 10 years
I thought I would get used to it but as I got older it got harder and harder on me.
I eventually found a new line of work with no nights and I feel a LOT better
some people handle it better than others
I read somewhere it can take 10 years off your life, I believe it.

I am currently on a night shift. I work 4 nights on, then have 4 off. I work from 10pm to 8.30am. I sleep from 9am to 2.30pm. Sleep debt does mount up, and by the time I finish my 4th night shift I have probably lost around 8 hours sleep. It is not recommended to work more than 4 nights in a row.
You may find it difficult at first, as the low point in the body's metabolism occurs around 3.30 to 4am, and you may fall asleep around this time, but it does pass. However, this low point can move around to day time, and you may get cold during the afternoon, but all this passes over time. I can stay awake the whole night.
I work in a young person's hostel, doing reception and security, and there are always two people on duty. I have been in this job for one year and I like it. The days off are good, because you can take 4 nights off and actually have 12 off due to the shift pattern. My neighbour does similar work at a different hostel, and he enjoys it.

I did night shift for 18 years and loved it. It is fine for the mind and body if your body adapts to it. I did great on night shift. The longest I went with before I crashed was problaby a day and 1/2.

I have done either 11p-7a OR 7p-7a for 37yrs in the ER. It Is when I am alive! MY bio rhythm is different than others and my son got the same gene.....he was a night person inside my belly my whole pregnancy.....up and dancing like clockwork at 8pm every night and wanted me to go to bed at 5am. Unfortunately, I had to work til 0730 and drive an hour to get home. He is 15 yrs old now and still is a night owl. I see no ill effects of it and believe that some of us are just hardwired differently than the rest. I've read studies saying it is detrimental but when I have to do day shifts, I am ill and nauseated til abotu 3pm. The ones I really feel for are the police officers who still have to change shifts weekly>>>>a week of nights>>>>then eves>>>>then days over and over and over....Talk about screwed up bio-rhythms! WOW!

I am working the night shift right now. I have only been doing it since around May, as well as maintaining a daytime life (more work and school). It is probably not the best for my mind and body, but I can go long periods sleeping 2-3 hours once or twice a day. It's doable, but you really have to consider the pros and cons.

I work 12 hour shifts 3 nights in a row from 6p.m.-7a.m. and it is difficult because I have a family and during the rest of my week I try to accommodate the normal schedule. sometimes I go on as little as 4 hours of sleep for 4 or more days in a row and have been doing this for over 2 years. It can be done and it does get tiresome but I just try to crash all day at least one day during the week.

Night shift can be perfectly fine for the body and mind. It is not good for you if you cannot adjust to it, and still have the urge to sleep at night.
My dad worked the night shift for 8 years, my brother has worked the night shift for two years now, and my father-in-law has been working overnight for the last three months.
They do not have any problems getting enough rest.

I did it for years at a time and it does provide a different life than the rest of the world and that can be an easy issue after awhile. Plus the whole sun and rise thing. I always tnded to enjoy the ride home as everyone was rushing to work I was making my way home to chill and crash. But I made up for it on weekends-Good luck!!!

I've been working nights for the last year, and I love it. I don't see how it's bad for the mind, if anything it effects my mood for the better. I love being awake all night and rarely having to see the sun.
The longest period of time I have been without passing out while working nights is from maybe (waking up at) 5pm one day to finally passing out around 1pm the next.
